We're excited to share this "Idea of the Week", submitted by either the MAiZE staff or one of your fellow siteowners. There never seems to be a shortage of ideas and the truth is that some of the best originate with all of you! So, if you ever have an idea you'd like us to pass along to the group, please just send it our way. Also, please remember that we'll be archiving these ideas on the siteowner web site, so that you can go back and view them whenever you like.

Increasing Traffic by "Sampling" Your Paid Attractions
|
|
|
Saw this Idea at SeaWorld in Orlando recently. In an effort to get people to "sample" a new carnival-style game they had, they were handing out these "one free play" cards along a busy walkway. Similar to the concept of "sampling" food items, this may be a great way to drive crowds to any paid attractions you'd like to increase traffic at (i.e., corn cannons, etc.) |

VENDOR UPDATE: Membership Fee Waived for Spookley Farm Program!
|
Many of you who attended the Corn Party in Raleigh may have already received the message below about the Spookley Farm Program, but we wanted to pass it along to make sure all of you got it:
Dear Friends,
We have spoken with a number of you recently and we have taken your feedback to heart: we are waiving the membership fee for the Spookley Farm Program.
We are delighted that so many of you have already included Spookley and his friends in your fall field trips and attractions, and we are thrilled with the feedback that you’ve shared with us about how Spookley helps you attract new guests, educate and entertain your visitors, and generate new revenue via merchandise sales. While we are so happy that Spookley and his friends have already found a home on many of your farms, we came to the realization that we had to restructure the Spookley Farm Program in order for us to continue to be able to support it – and support all of you – over the long run. The 2011 Membership Fee was our initial attempt to ensure that we could support our farm partners and grow our network for the many seasons ahead, but we realized via conversations with some of you that the fee would not achieve its intended purpose.
Accordingly, we are eliminating the $500 membership fee and replacing it with a $500 minimum merchandise commitment. The $500 minimum merchandise commitment can be used to purchase Spookley merchandise such as books, DVDs, plush toys, decorative signs, and inflatable displays. (For those of you who have already submitted your membership fee, you now have a $500 credit towards the purchase of Spookley merchandise).
All other aspects of the program, including access to Spookley content for promotions, lesson plans, and on-the-farm decorations and activities, will remain the same. We will also continue to honor geographic exclusivity with our partners so that no two farms within the same geographic radius will be able to participate in the Spookley Farm Program.
With this change in our program, we anticipate an increase in demand so we encourage those of you who are interested to reach out to us as soon as possible to claim your spots.
Thank you to all of you who have shared your feedback with us and we look forward to many fun seasons ahead!
Best regards,
Aaron Burakoff, Holiday Hill Enterprises

Tried & Tested
We have 2 sets of "Little Logs." The were hugely popular with our guests - not so much with our staff (there is a lot of clean up throughout the day - people build them, but don't take them apart and put them away). For us, customers built and tore down the cabins 10+ times a day. We had a lot of trouble with tabs breaking off and roof pieces getting split, but have worked with the company to remedy the situation and we have some solutions. We redesigned the roof truss & reinforced the ends of each roof piece. We will be purchasing 2 new modified sets for 2011. We are hopeful and cautiously optimistic that the improvements we have made will make it even better for this year.
