Next Wednesday, 26 May, we will be welcoming Peter Greenway LRPS CPAGB to our screens. Peter will be presenting his talk Trials and Tribulations of Bookcover Photography. Peter is a self-confessed technology geek, his love of technology naturally lends itself to digital photography and creative image edits. He has a very eclectic portfolio of images that reflects his passion for night photography, historical images, macro and the downright quirky shot. In the last three years he has specialised in producing images for book covers and has had his work published as covers in the UK, America, Sweden, Israel, Germany and the Czech Republic.

President's Cup & Not The Garmston Bowl Competitions |
In this continuing Zoom era, we still plan to run the President's Cup competition, which is for a panel of three projected images. It will run with the rules as already set out, which include a bar on entrants holding a qualification of ARPS or above or their equivalents.
The President's Cup usually runs in parallel with the Garmston Bowl competition. This competition, for a panel of five prints, is open to all members. However, we still cannot run print competitions. So, as last year, we will run a competition with same structure and rules as the President's Cup, to which has been given the title ‘Not the Garmston Bowl’.
This competition will be a for a panel of three projected images with entry open to members who are over-qualified or barred from the President's Cup, it is to give the keen panellists who cannot enter the President's Cup a chance to show their wares and collect the ‘Not the Garmston Bowl’. Entries must be made in the same way as for the President’s Cup competition.
The closing date for entry to both competitions (though entrants can enter only one of the competitions) is 2 June. The competitions will be judged on 23 June.

It's a little way off, but the closing date for the Creative Competition is fast approaching, 16 June. So you have time to get those creative juices flowing and start preparing your images. Last year it was for both prints and projected images, but obviously Covid has meant that it will be another projected only competition. The judge this time around will be our own Barry Mead, who knows a little bit about creative photography, so now's your chance to show him that there are others out there snapping at his heels!

With the situation regarding Covid beginning to ease, people are beginning to get back to some degree of normality. BPS Council has been discussing the re-opening of Unit 13 and at present are thinking along the lines of this happening at the beginning of September. However, some members might want to get back to doing a bit of studio work before then. If you are one of those members and think that you would like to start booking the studio before September, please let Mike Martin know so that a decision can be made about re-opening the studio - please email Mike at studiobookings@bristolphoto.org.uk. The studio is Covid safe, but users would be expected to conform to recognised Covid precautions.

Many thanks to Kevin James for sending me this link to a nifty bit of drone photography. It showcases some pretty extraordinary piloting skills along with some wonderful photography of the Keukenhof Tulip Gardens in Holland. To view, just follow this link.

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Make Money For BPS Every Time You Shop On Amazon! |
Now we're all still in lockdown, the thought of on-line shopping must be looming large in many members' minds. It's worth remembering that if you so wish, each and every one of you can support BPS with every purchase you make on Amazon by using Amazon Smile. Click on the link below – then it’s self-explanatory.
Shopping using Smile is no different to your normal Amazon shopping and costs you nothing, it's just that you need to tell it that you wish to use Smile and then we get some pennies!
