Singlehandedly Solo Series
November 22nd and 23rd

If you love personal narrative, you'll love these feature-length stories. Each one is a rare combination of humor, insight, vulnerability, and dynamic, charismatic storytelling.

Kriya Kaping, Bump in The Night
(Friday night only)
Portland performance artist Kriya Kaping returns to the solo series with her second feature-length story, Bump in the Night. On safari in Africa, Kriya forgets her sleeping bag, is saved from almost-certain gang rape by a package of red licorice, and writes out her last will and testament by flashlight while a pride of very, very hungry lions circles her tent -- all night long.  Portland Story Theater fans will be very, very glad she lived to tell the tale. After seeing Kriya perform in April, Bob Hicks of Oregon Arts Watch advises, "Keep an eye out for Kaping: she’s worth following."

Jeff BurkeCrazy Love
(Saturday night only)
Hipbone Studio proprietor and artist Jeff Burke  is no stranger to the Portland Story Theater stage, having told in the UrbanTellers program  numerous times, but this is his first foray into the realm of the feature-length story. Jeff, who will be turning 60 this year, takes us all the way back to his early twenties to tell the story of his first serious love relationship -- the agony and the ecstasy; the good, the bad and the ugly. From the intense euphoria of first love to lying inthe middle of the road in the pouring rain, waiting for a car to come along and run him over, Jeff delves deep into the emotional landscape of a relationship that changed him forever.

Denis Gessing, What Are We Gonna Do If Superman Dies?
(both nights)
Artist-in-residence and nationally-known storyteller Denis Gessing makes his Portland Story Theater debut with What Are We Gonna Do If Superman Dies, a story that begins hilariously with our brave hero, goaded on by his younger brother, attempting to fly from the garage roof to the oak tree -- and then takes us into a deep and very personal exploration of the relationship between brothers, the life-long quest to discover one's real super-powers, and a present-day reflection on what it all means. Denis is the kind of storyteller who makes time stand still as he weaves his web of words.

May the narrative be with you,
