Great news!
Dead End Dummy made the print edition of the
New York Daily News today (Brooklyn edition). If you are out of our geographical area. the story was posted online Friday afternoon; read it
here. The Coney Island leg of the show runs through November 2; after that, we transfer to LaMama....but you're really doing yourself a disservice if you don't see it in the atmospheric old sideshow in the run up to Halloween. If you want a Halloween experience, THIS is a Halloween experience.
Can you think of a better way to observe the Halloween season than watching a play about a murderous ventriloquist, staged in an eerie sideshow? Featuring not only ventriloquism and spooky thrills, but live music, songs, a little dancing, magic and lots of laughs -- plus a little bittersweet sadness for the bygone days of vaudeville and live entertainment? Plus the Freak Bar in which to drink your joys and sorrows before and after the show? In short, I obviously can't! I hope to see you down at historic
Coney Island USA at a show that's got me tickled pink thanks to the talents of playwright
Dick Zigun, Scott Baker, Poor Baby Bree, Becca Bernard, Douglas MacKrell, Rhiannon Schaefer, Arianna Geneson, Kate Dale, Marie Roberts and
Sarah Lahue! um, and me,
Trav S.D.!
Dead End Dummy, written by Dick Zigun and directed by Trav S.D., explores the uniquely American art form of Vaudeville (filtered through the dark lens of expressionism) following Max Morinsky, an aging ventriloquist, who, upon the death of vaudeville, sets out to kill Thomas Edison.
