May is always an exciting time here at ReBelle and this year is no different. We have so much happening in and out of the shop, it is hard to know where to begin. First, May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we are tying that into both a monthly KAL/CAL (Emotional Support Animals) and a challenge for you to knit or crochet everyday in May (see below.) Next up, we will be celebrating all things Mad Tosh at our monthly stitch-in with new kits and prizes. For those of you who love learning, we have some really great classes this month including the Deschain Tee (knit), the Boho Granny Square Headband (crochet), and for those wanting to do something totally new- an Intro to Tapestry Weaving class. Finally, would it even be May if we didn't mention the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Fest? We will be there with a booth set up in our normal spot so come by and say hi!!

Madeline Tosh May (or Mad May) is here!!! Above is the color of the month- Rebel Rainbow Rider. We already have it in the shop in the Tosh sock base, but we loved it so much when it arrived that we reordered more of it in the Vintage which will be here towards the end of the month. We also reordered the LYS Day colorway, Spring Fever, in sock and Vintage for anyone who missed out on it last weekend. Those will be here at the end of the month as well. Yell if you need us to hold any skeins for you.
Coming in time for our Mad May Par-tay on May 12 will be the Motley Hoof kits which include 8 unicorn tails, a project bag, a pattern download code, and some other goodies- everything you need to make the stunning cowl pictured above. |
We are super in love with this month's Crazy Beautiful Color of the month from Emma's Yarns. "May 2024 ” has a cool, minty base color with pinky purple pops inspired by blooming liliac bushes. While this color was not meant as a collaboration with Casapinka, we do think it would work well in any of her LYS Day designs like the Local Yarn Cowl, Kitation, Breathe and Hope, or Ric Rac. As usual, the color plays well with a huge variety of coordinating colors! Pictured here with Mint to Be, Zuni, Pure, Crown Jewel, Jammin', Down the Rabit Hole, Cactus Flower, and Very Berry.

It is our favorite time of year- Knitted Wit National Parks Club season!!! Every month from May-August, Knitted Wit will release 4 new colorways inspired by National Parks areas, such as National Recreation Areas, Heritage sites, etc.
For May we have (from left to right) Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail, New River Gorge National Park, and the Lorraine Hansberry Residence.
As usual, there is a Passport to track your parks purchases from us and other local yarn shops as you travel through the summer. At the end of the summer, there will be a commemorative patch for those with four filled squares and an enamel pin for those with all sixteen. |
May is Mental Health Awareness Month so for our shop knit/crochet along we are making emotional support animals. The main focus will be the Emotional Support Chicken pattern by Annette Corsino which is available in both a knit and crochet version on Ravelry. Most of the group will be working on these, but if you would like to participate and a chicken does not appeal to you, Robyn made a Ravelry bundle of other animals who might be your perfect emotional support pal.
All ReBelle knit alongs are free and open to the public. You are welcome to attend as many or as few of the KAL sessions as you like.

Staying in theme for Mental Health Awareness month, we are issuing a challenge for customers to knit or crochet everyday in May. As little as a couple of stitches or as much as a few hours, the goal is to create a habit that is good for your mental health. At the end of the month, submit your physical or digital tracker to us and we will be doing a drawing on June 6 for a $50 ReBelle gift card.
Trackers are available in the shop or if you want a digital version to keep on your phone or print yourself, you can download the pdf here.

Since its inception, the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival has been our favorite thing about May. This year the fest will be May 18 & 19 at Masterson Station park. There will be over 50 vendors with everything from yarn and fiber to pottery to soaps and sundries. There are lots of great classes and workshops, demos, food, and for the spinners there is a skien contest. ReBelle will have a booth in our usual spot so stop by and say hello, there will likely be some goodies for visitors.
