MEMBERS ONLY DIRECTORY

NOW ONLINE AT www.austinfriendsoffolkart.org!

All 2009 paid members will be receiving a separate e-mail with the user name and password to the Members Only Directory.  If you do not receive that e-mail, or if you do receive that e-mail and find that you are not included in the Member Directory, it could be for one of three reasons:

#1) Your membership dues for 2009 are not paid. To join or renew, please go to www.austinfriendsoffolkart.org/Join.html, print out the Membership Application page, complete it, and mail it with a check to the address on the form.
*If you are unsure of your membership status, please e-mail Membership Coordinator Alexandra Landeros at alexandra@alumni.cmu.edu

#2) Your membership dues for 2009 are paid, but you didn't fill out a membership application specifying what info you wanted to have included in the Members Only Directory.  To save paper, please e-mail alexandra@alumni.cmu.edu specifying what information you'd like shared on the Directory.

#3) Human error.  You've paid and filled out a form, and you didn't receive an e-mail with the user name & password or you're not included in the Directory.  Please see #2 above.

THE MEMBERS ONLY DIRECTORY IS NOT to be used for business purposes or passed to others for business purposes.  For contact information of AFFA members willing to be contacted by business members, contact alexandra@alumni.cmu.edu.

SAN ANTONIO RIVER WALK AND COLORS ON CLAY OUTING (SUNDAY 9/20/09) - RSVP & DEPOSIT DUE BY 9/5/09!

Color on Clay

$50 per person deposit due by September 5 - Limited Space. Sign up today for AFFA's first event of the 2009 program year!

Make check payable to AFFA & mail to: Lee Schultz, 9403 Spring Hollow Dr., Austin, TX  78750

Schedule:

9:45 - 11:45 - Guided river cruise of the art works in the Museum Reach, including a view of the Maverick Tile Mural to which AFFA provided a grant of $1,500.  We have also invited a few friends from Los Amigos del Arte Popular in Houston to join us.  Susan Toomey Frost, who rescued the tile mural from a home about to be razed, will be on board to celebrate with us!  The tour will be led by a knowledgeable guide from the San Antonio River Foundation, which was responsible for the art works along the River Walk's new extension, now reaching the San Antonio Museum of Art. We will also see some WPA art works along the river.

12:15 - Brunch buffet at La Fonda (the original one on Main Street) as a group & continued sightings of art work.

2:00 - 3:00 - Colors on Clay Exhibition, Talk & Book Signing by Susan Toomey Frost at the Witte Museum.  The Witte's exhibition features a selection of brightly colored tiles decorated to reflect the popular imagery of Mexico and South Texas, from the outstanding private collection of Susan Toomey Frost, who also wrote the book Colors on Clay.  In an adjoining gallery, the Witte also has the exhibition Bill Wittliff's Lonesome Dove Photographs: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Making of a Modern Classic.

About transportation and cost:  We want to rent a 24 passenger mini bus so we can mix, sip and freely enjoy each other's company en route.  With bus transportation, breakfast snacks going down, wine and other snacks coming back, the specially guided river cruise, brunch at La Fonda, the Witte entrance, and all tips and fees, the cost will be $125/person if 24 people send in $50 deposits by September 5.

If fewer than 24 people send in deposits, we will carpool, and apply deposits received to the per-person cost of $75, which will include gas for drivers, parking costs, and everything above (except wine, snacks and the bus).

Questions about the San Antonio trip? Please e-mail Merry Wheaton at mcwheaton@austin.rr.com.
