"Kat Bytes"
the monthly newsletter of StudioKat Designs
Issue #182  September 2020

So... have you noticed that all anyone seems to be talking about right now is what the future will look like...after Covid...after the election...after the vaccine. But no one really knows what the future holds, right? SO... what should we focus on then?
I recommend focusing as little as possible on the future. Focus instead on what you can do right now that will be good no matter what the future brings. Make stuff. Build stuff. Learn skills. Make friends. Go on adventures if at all possible. These things will help no matter what the future holds for you. But for right now...
I'm Glad You're HERE! Let's get started!

September 2020 "Eye Candy"
It’s time for your monthly treat for the eyes & here’s the deal…We actually could have called this month’s group an “ALL SLING MONTH”! That’s because ALL of the bags pictured below are either Sling Along‘s or Side Slinger‘s which have shared recently on either our FaceBook business page, our Instagram feed or on our Group page on FaceBook. It's kinda wierd that there's only two designs represented but they are beautiful just the same!

(For LARGER images: Click on each individual pic)

LaBreeska Harris said that she is SO in love with our Sling Along pattern & this particular sample that she was actually sorry that it’s sold. It’s hard to believe that she hasn’t made one for herself yet.

This is Debra Reilly‘s 1st Sling Along!  I love her choice of fabrics and especially her excellent fussy-cutting. It’s plain to see that Debra has skilz!

Lisette Leveille‘s combination of fabrics and zippers for her Side Slinger was particularly brave but it totally works together!

Linda Collin‘s assistant clearly approves of her Side Slinger & no wonder! Linda said she LOVES the way this bag fits against her body. She added that she can barely feel it, the strap is BEYOND comfortable & that she’ll definitely be making more of these

Nancy Rosa has surely made a LOT of Sling Along‘s but she says that one of the reasons she loves this design is because it can be SO unique depending on the fabrics that are chosen!

Joy Carr said that she had great fun making her Sling Along which must mean that she loves fussy-cutting because she did such an excellent job of that on this gorgeous bag!
Cheryl Suitt made a stunning “back to black” Side Slinger for her son. She said she used “Cordura” for this bag which is great for guys since it’s water & wear resistant, but that it presented a few construction challenges. She’s really pleased with the results though.

And this amazing Side Slinger was made by Barb Flowers who said that she loves how it came out and will be proud to carry it! Barb used cork fabric for he entire exterior and added that she enjoyed working with it!
Louise McCoy also made a “man bag” for her son, in this case a Sling Along. She said she loves the pattern and that her son was really pleased with the result!

And here’s another of Nancy Rosa‘s Sling Along‘s, this one was fashioned in an embroidered print & primary colors. Nancy said her friend went crazy over it and that’s no surprise!

Debbie Harris said she FINALLY made a Sling Along for herself and I can’t blame her for wanting to keep this little beauty! (Check out the impeccable fussy-cutting)              GREAT job Deb!

And finally, after making this, her 4th Sling Along,
Beth Hall declared  that she “just LOVES this pattern”!

Worrying about your battery’s health might not be worth the hassle. If you’re unsure whether there’s a “right” way to charge your phone — or whether charging it too long, too often or too fast can damage the battery — you’re not alone.

At a time when everyone is isolated at home, nervous about spending money and without an occasion to dress up, what can we do to help you pass the time?

Styles has started a series of print-and-keep D.I.Y. wardrobe customization ideas, similar to the sewing patterns that glossy magazines used to provide. We want you to remember the joy of fashion and learn (or remember) how to make things at home. Some of fashion’s best-known creative talents will be on hand to guide you through the process.
