Psalm 8:5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor.
FOR A LITTLE WHILE
This should actually read, "For a little while you have made him lower than the angels."
This psalm is not only a description of humans and our place in the universe and God's creation but it is also a prophecy telling what it is that Christ would do for us.
For Christ, being God, was over and above all things, yet even though He had all authority He gave it up and for a little while became lower, lower than the angels, lower even than most men. He who had all authority put himself for a time under all authority in order that He might serve all men by suffering and dying in our place. Yet once this task was complete He rose from the dead and received again, as the Psalm says, all glory and honor, and all things were again put under his feet.
Similarly, we who follow Christ, are for a little while lower than the angels--who do not suffer the pains of this earth. But once we by the grace of God have traveled through this life, we also will rise to reign with Christ, receiving glory and honor from God--the glory and honor that Christ won for us, which belong to Christ but which He gives to us.
