   Iditarod Camping

Filming the Iditarod Dog Race in Alaska by snowmobile puts me in the harshest of elements for extended amounts of time. Sometimes I don't get inside to warm up for days. So warm gear is imperative. The 'Superwarm' Heavy Extreme Alpaca Socks are the best socks I've used in my 11 years of filming the Iditarod. Temps reached as low as -58 and my feet were never cold. They wicked moisture nicely and kept my feet nice and cozy. -Phil Townsend

Farm Success During Covid
Your alpaca farm serves a needy public

Covid-19 has been a challenge for alpaca businesses but as the months roll on we have learned many new ways to help make it work for alpaca farms' bottom line.

Tish Carpinelli of Jersey Shore Alpacas of Cape May, NJ shared her story of how Covid led to alpaca livestyle success with private farm tours. Tish and her husband Jim found people are desperate to get outside and enjoy the outdoor alpaca experience. Though your situation my work differently, they skipped the paid advertising, chamber, commercial rack cards and print media and just put a free events listing in Trip Advisor. That one entry in Things to Do has them fully booked on their schedule with thankful and generous visitors! Some of their tours are booked solid 2 months out!
Tish and Jim found scheduled tours put them in control of their schedule, made it easy for COVID group visits of a controllable size, and led to happy and generous farm store tours.

They've had success with:
* Free group tour days
* Private paid tours
* Online Mom's groups
* A (subtle) donation box (works surprisingly well!)
* A store guest book, for follow-up info and long term repeat product customers.
* and Free Carrot treats for grateful farm visitors.
We spoke by phone for nearly an hour while Tish cut carrots.

Other things which worked in the past include Live Streaming on Facebook to virtually visit the alpacas and get a QVC-like demonstration of available alpaca products. Holiday photo shoots where the female alpacas modeled holiday scarves with barrettes in their hair. Photoshoots of folk on an Amish hay cart with alpacas grazing from the cart. A fun pinnable world map where visitors from around the world have stuck their pins.
The overall key here is to know people NEED to visit you!
They want to get outside, do something real and breath some farm air! In exchange they are delighted and generous in supporting you.
