John 2:9-10 . . . the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and . . . called the bridegroom and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now."

GLORIOUS GIVING

Jesus’ glory is revealed in giving! His purpose was not to call attention to Himself. Not even the bridegroom or the governor of the feast knew where this new wine came from. If Jesus wanted to put on a show, He could jump from the pinnacle of the temple. But His purpose was to help, and His glory is revealed in order to help us all. Can we trust such a Savior?

And the glory of the Lord is revealed to be better at the last. The bridegroom was asked why he had saved the best wine until last. In the world the best is served first. The joys, the celebrations, the strength-- everything is served up as soon as possible. It is later that the joys fade, the celebrations are only memories, the strength turns into weakness, and the stolen pleasures to ashes in the mouth.

But Jesus' blessing begins in a stable and ends at the right hand of God. It comes to the poor spirit, the broken and the contrite heart, and ends with the word of forgiveness, and its result: "Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world!"

The Wise Men came bringing the riches of this world to the new-born King. But the glory of this King is that He gives us ten thousand times more than we could ever give Him! He gives us a heavenly Father, who will care for us forever!
