Subject: | "Collaborative Thinking" | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Thinking
is challenging enough when we do it on our own -
but when we add other people, be they bosses,
co-workers, or spouses - well, you better have a
good idea of how to proceed. Randy Park is a
professional speaker and author who studies how
people think and make decisions, both
individually and collectively. In this entertaining, thought provoking, interactive session you will see why: ....the people we learn the most from - if we let ourselves - are the people we like the least ....how to get other people to understand your viewpoint (including your spouse) ....a practical technique for pulling a group of people together so they're headed in the same direction ....why "tolerating" diversity sells it short - it should be championed ....as well as identifying aspects of your own thinking that are effective and sometimes not so effective. You'll leave with action steps to help you make better decisions with fewer mistakes at work and at home. You will also leave with one of Randy's books or DVDs. Bring your partner, guests and your friends to this special wrap up to the ISA Hamilton Section's 2007/2008 season. |

District 13 Leadership Conference Report |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The
ISA Hamilton Section recently sent four delegates to the District 13
Leadership Conference in la ville de la Baie, Quebec (Saguenay) May
3rd and 4th. The Leadership Conference is an opportunity for local
section to network and develop their executive skills and personal
skills as well as knowledge of the ISA organization. Twenty-five
representatives from the five sections in the District 13 attended the
conference. The weekend started with a presentation from Terri Knox
called All Stressed up & everywhere to go. Terri went through a
workshop with attendees and led them through different techniques on how
to deal with internal and external stresses in your home and work
life. Leo Staples, the ISA Treasurer, attended the conference as the Executive Committee contact. His presentation to the Sections in attendance, reviewed many of the ISA initiatives that the society has undertaken over the past year. He announced the society EXPO 2008 will be held October 14th to October 16th, 2008 in Houston Texas. Leo also discussed the Society Member Services Funding Task force Report that was presented to the executive committee in 2007. The Goal of the task force was to examine current procedures and inhibitors as well as to recommend future enhancements to overcome any present deficiencies in the society. Dalton Wilson (the District 13 ISA Staff contact) provided a presentation on ISA Leader Resources. Dalton reminded members to take advantage of the 4 key online benefits that members can access: (1) Unlimited Standards downloading, (2) Technical Paper Libraries, (3) Prerecorded web seminars and (4) ISA transactions The workshop also included other presentations on society operations and governance. In addition to the Saturday workshop, the District Council meeting was convened on Sunday morning. Many issues were discussed and I am happy to announce my election as the next District Vice President Elect to start my term in Jan 2010. It is a challenge that I look forward to addressing. The next ISA District 13 Leadership Conference is scheduled for the first weekend in May 2009. Reported by Michael Bovenkamp |
