Helen Arney news
May 2011

Hello, and a big cuddly welcome to new subscribers from the Uncaged Monkeys tour earlier this month. Even bigger cuddlier welcomes go to old subscribers who haven't hit "delete" yet.

I've just released tickets for a bunch of shows in London: two Festival of the Spoken Nerd nights (at our new bigger venue!), and The London Air-Accordion Society returns to the Green Man with a series of very special Edinburgh previews. Tickets are selling like warm buns already, so do take a look if you're London-bound in June or July.

For everyone outside the capital, there's a list of gigs I'm doing around the country, a discount code to download my music from Bandcamp, and - at last - three dimensional cut-out-and-keep fame!

Festival of the Spoken Nerd - two new shows

After half a dozen sell-out shows, we've taken the plunge and moved Festival of the Spoken Nerd to a new bigger venue, the New Red Lion Theatre in Angel.

1/3 of the tickets have already been bought since we announced the dates this morning... So if you want to join me, Steve Mould and Matt Parker at a night of geek cabaret for the terminally sci-curious, you'd better be quick:

 June 13th - tickets here
 July 11th - tickets here

Guests are TBC but will be announced on twitter @FotSN and on our website festivalofthespokennerd.com

The London Air-Accordion Society returns
If you're missing the intimate loveliness of the Green Man already, don't fret... my ramshackle comedy night The London Air-Accordion Society is back next month with three special Edinburgh previews.

For mailing list subscribers (that's you) tickets are a fiver including booking fee. That'll get you two hours of my favourite comedians, which is definitely worth more than a fiver. You'll also get a handful of new songs from me - that's why the tickets are so cheap...

Here's who is doing what, and when:

20th June - tickets here
 James Acaster :: new show
Jigsaw (Dan Antopolski, Tom Craine, Nat Luurtsema)

4th July - tickets here
Catie Wilkins :: A Chip Off The Odd Block
Tony Law :: Go Mr Tony, Go!

25th July - tickets here
Tom Goodliffe :: The Good Liffe
 Holly Walsh :: Hollycopter

The best way to check when I'm playing near you is to look at helenarney.com - it's fairly regularly updated, and has London dates as well as gigs around the UK.

For those of you who prefer to give your clicking finger a rest, here's a selection of non-London dates coming up in June:

1st June :: HowTheLightGetsIn, Hay on Wye - tickets
9th June :: Science & Wonder at The Rex, Berkhamstead - tickets
10th June :: Whyteleaf Tavern, Surrey (tickets on the door)

Discount code for Bandcamp.com
After repeated reminders from musician buddies, I've finally made all my music available on the excellent Bandcamp website.

So now you can download both my albums, and the Mr Simmonds / Professor Elemental hip-hop remix of "Animals" (plus bonus tracks!) from a single place.

To celebrate this modern marvel, I've created a discount code. For any purchases before 30th June, use the word "EMAIL" at the checkout to get 15% off.

If you like my songs and want to hear more from the geeky end of the creative spectrum, I thoroughly recommend visiting the Geek Pop Festival 2011 - it's still online, and features some properly excellent nerdrock for you to listen to and download, mostly for free.

Wee Paper People - The Balconettes, and Uncaged Monkeys
Wee Paper People by Sally Grosart

And finally... one of the most awesome things I saw last month... tiny cutout paper versions of my comedy girlband, The Balconettes!

This isn't the first creation from Wee Paper People... there's dozens of cut-out-and-make patterns on her blog, like a complete set of the Uncaged Monkeys tour (including all guests and our tour manager, Giles) and a set of make-your-own scientists including Schrodinger, Dawkins and the amazing Carl Sagan

I've already told her how awesome she is several times, but I'm sure she won't get bored of hearing it from other people any time soon...

ThanksAndBye
Thanks as always for reading this. I hope you'll send me your news in return (yellow background, snazzy pictures and html links not necessary)
