The University of Washington Social Development Research Group recently participated in a cooperative effort between members of the Washington State Prevention Research Sub-Committee, Washington State University’s IMPACT Research Lab, and the Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery to develop a series of three research briefs. Drs. Kevin Haggerty and Brittany Cooper led the collaborative effort. The briefs are intended to help inform policymakers of behavioral health risks associated with substance use access, promotion, and marketing, and public health strategies to promote behavioral health and well-being. “I’m proud of this collective effort that brought prevention professionals from around the state together to summarize important scientific information for policymakers to consider when making public health policy decisions” said Dr. Haggerty.

The research briefs are attached, and can also be found here: 1) Location Matters: Access, Availability, and Density of Substance Retailers; 2) Protecting Youth from the Harmful Effects of Alcohol, Cannabis, and Commercial Tobacco (Nicotine) Marketing and Promotion; and 3) Smart Investment: Costs and Benefits of Substance Use Prevention and Behavioral Health Promotion. Please feel free to distribute broadly.

Thank you for your interest in our research.
