John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Jesus is the Way because He is the Truth.
And He is the Way because He can in all truth say of Himself . . .
I AM THE LIFE
But how is the LIFE Christ is given to dying sinners? He tells us how: "I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds" (John 12:24).
Jesus' way of giving His life to us was by giving up His physical life for us. He must die in order that we may live through faith in Him . . . because the forgiveness He secured through His death sets us right with God.
"He saved others, himself he cannot save!" What Jesus' enemies shouted in scorn from beneath His cross was true in one sense. The seed cannot save itself, if there is to be a tree. The soldier cannot save himself, if he is to save his country. The Shepherd cannot save himself, if He would save his sheep. Christ is the Good Shepherd and there was no other way to save us than to lay down His life for our salvation.
Death is the door of Life. That statement is true . . . in Christ. True in two ways. It is true of Christ's death, and because of that our death is also the door to Life.
"I am the way and the truth and the life," Jesus said. "No one comes to the Father except through me."
And all who come to God through faith in Christ become "Children of the Heavenly Father", children who finally come home -- home to the Father's house.
