Psalm 96:2a (NKJV) Sing to the LORD, bless His name.
The New Song: Why Should We Sing?
Why does Holy Scripture invite us not only to talk and to speak, but also to sing?

Singing is a very special manner of communication. Singing is the highest form of speech. This raising of the human voice happens when one’s heart is so deeply moved, and one thoughts are so filled to overflowing with emotion, that one must express oneself in a special way.

Should it be any different with Christians? The thoughts of the thankful children of God in Holy Scripture often present themselves in vigorous speech and in powerful songs.

There we have the answer to the question: Why should a person sing? A person should sing in order to let it be known in a recognizable manner that a person loves God with his whole heart, and is thankful to Him for His work of redemption, and other wonderful deeds. God does not need our songs, but we owe Him such songs. Thereby other people can recognize how fortunate those people consider themselves to be when they have recognized how much God loves the children of men in Christ Jesus.

"Taste and see how good the Lord is, happy is the man who takes refuge in Him!" (Psalm 34:8).

Lord, open our eyes that we may rightly recognize Thy blessings, and love Thee with our whole hearts. Amen.
