Amos 6:4 You lie on beds inlaid with ivory and lounge on your couches. You dine on choice lambs and fattened calves.
NIGHT TIME
Evil tends to like the cover of darkness. When night falls, burglars sneak about and revelers indulge themselves. As the sun went down, the leaders of Israel and Judah went to their beds inlaid with ivory and lounged on their couches. They threw lavish parties in which they glorified themselves, their wealth, and their excess. They dined on the choice lambs and fattened calves without giving any thought to the poor and needy.
Night is not always the best time for us either. Doubts and fears about the day just past or the day yet to come creep into our minds. When we are sick, everything seems to get a little worse at night. Night can present dangers and temptations which are not always so obvious or so strong in the daylight.
Whether we are lying on a fancy bed, a plain straw mat, or in a hospital room, the Lord watches over us through the hours of darkness. "I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety." (Psalm 4:8).
Our God knows a little something about the dark, for the daylight fled when Jesus offered His life for the sin of the world. Now through our nights, we can be confident of the Father's forgiveness and love toward us.
