Last week, we announced the release of Sharon Van Etten’s transcendent forthcoming album, Are We There, on 26th May via Jagjaguwar. The album, made entirely on her own terms, portrays Van Etten in full stride, writing, producing and performing. Always direct, and never shying away from even the most personally painful narratives, Van Etten creates a bond with listeners few contemporary musicians are able to match. With each new album, her songwriting continues to evolve, an accomplishment immediately evident through the album’s first single, “Taking Chances,” which Van Etten has shared via her website today.

Van Etten’s last album, Tramp, garnered heaps of attention, be it year-end accolades from those including The Guardian, The Fly, Uncut, Mojo, Pitchfork and NPR Music; television bookings on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, CONAN and Later…with Jools Holland; a support slot and back-up vocalist with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds; a performance alongside John Cale at BAM, as well as having music featured on The Walking Dead, Rectify, Boardwalk Empire, amongst other television programs. Are We There is sure to lead Van Etten to an even brighter realm of opportunities.
