Join us for an evening with Dr. Kate Levinson, who has written Emotional Currency: A Woman's Guide to Building a Healthy Relationship with Money - an insightful and empowering guide that provides women with a healthy, proactive approach to finances. A psychotherapist for more than 25 years, Levinson's experiences proved that money and emotions were intricately entwined, and that limited communication made women, in particular, feel financially isolated and vulnerable.
Using real-life examples, Levinson will discuss how old habits and ideas affect present-day spending and saving patterns, and offer strategies to help women triumph over common obstacles related to earning, investing, budgeting, spending, saving, inheriting, and losing money.

Fire Monks: Zen Mind Meets Wildfire at the Gates of Tassajara

We are pleased to be co-sponsoring a very special event at the San Francisco Zen Center next Thursday.
Busch, a Zen student and former senior editor of Yoga Journal magazine, has written the true story of how five monks saved the oldest Zen Buddhist monastery in the United States from wildfire in 2008. She shares the story of the lightning-induced flames approaching the San Francisco Zen Center's isolated mountain monastery, and the personal experiences of members of the organization who responded. She includes the complicated decisions that led up to the final defense of the popular retreat, and residents' moment-to-moment encounters with the fire's unpredictability, using minds that are trained rigorously to accept rapid change and to evaluate the needs of the present moment.
Fire Monks is a page-turner, a meditation on fire, wind, water, and earth, and a wonderfully detailed portrait of Tassajara practitioners as they come face-to-face with fire and themselves. A terrific and thoughtful book. - Gretel Ehrlich, author of A Match to the Heart
