Autumn Beads
When the nights darken, make some classy seasonal jewellery. Halloween is huge these days, then there’s Christmas presents to make.
There’s so many beads suitable for this season: agate, calsilica, citrine, coral, flaked stones, jade, jasper, lava, lapis, malachite, rhodonite, and tiger eye. You can also combine amber and pearl with all types of brown, dark greens, gold, and misty yellow. Orange and gold beads match autumn leaves – try combining carnelian with black beads like onyx. Enhance your imagination with a touch of gold. Mix contrasting colours like brown and gold with blues and green.
For Halloween, skull jewellery are popular with the young, who wear skull rings on their fingers and hang skull pendants on their phones.

Spook Up Your Style: Crafting Halloween Jewellery
Halloween is the perfect opportunity to add some eerie elegance to your ensemble. Try your hand at creating unique, Halloween-inspired jewellery. Choose stones that align with the spooky, mysterious atmosphere of the holiday. Like black onyx, obsidian, garnet, amethyst, labradorite, lava, and hematite. These gems come in various shapes, sizes, and finishes, allowing you to create a diverse range of jewellery.
Design Ideas
- Bewitching Bracelets: Craft a stylish yet eerie bracelet by combining black onyx beads with tiny, silver spider charms. Add some red garnet beads for a pop of colour reminiscent of blood drops.
- Mystical Necklaces: Create a captivating pendant necklace featuring a labradorite stone that shimmers with enchanting blue and green hues. Accentuate it with silver moon and star charms for a celestial touch.
- Haunted Earrings: Design hauntingly beautiful earrings with dangling obsidian teardrop beads and bat-shaped charms. These will add a mysterious allure to your Halloween look.
-
Witchy Rings: Craft a statement ring using a large amethyst or hematite bead as the centerpiece. Surround it with smaller obsidian or onyx beads for a gothic vibe.
Crafting Steps
- Design Your Piece: Sketch your design on paper or use a bead design board to lay out your desired pattern.
- String Your Beads: Thread semi-precious beads onto the wire or cord according to your design. Be sure to secure the ends with crimp beads and clasps.
- Add Charms and Accents: Incorporate Halloween-themed charms, pendants, or spacers between your beads to enhance the spooky vibe.
- Finishing Touches: Trim any excess wire or cord, and use pliers to close jump rings securely.
Skull Beads
Skull beads are ideal for Halloween, and students have been hanging them on their rucksacks all year. Skulls remind that we all have to die. Skulls show that life is not permanent and are a symbol that we are all flirting with death.

Cambridge Bead Fair Report
See the online newsletter for many pictures of this show. As usual Cambridge was busy. With MrBead, Southampton Bead Shop, Healing Crystals, Nottingham Bead Shop & Spangles. Bit of a squeeze in the main hall, so two traders in the foyer. Next year we’ll return three times: Sun 9th March 2025, Sun 1st June and Sun 5th October.
Mr & Mrs Bead’s Greek Trip
See the online nesletter for pictures. It’s always good to leave the UK for better food, and Greece is no exception. We love seafood.
This time, just after the Cambridge Bead Fair,
we drove 400-miles from Athens to the karst hills and 700-year-old monasteries of Meteora. Then back to Athens, via the Temple of Apollo in Delphi, for a ferry to Aegina Island.

ENJOY A BEAD FAIR SOON!
Bead shows are great fun! Take a trolley, as beads get heavy. Take some cash, as a few venues have a weak signal for card payments.
Talk to the vendors and other visitors to inspire new design ideas. Make a note of what you paid for beads, and keep exhibitors’ business cards and leaflets.
