Q & A

Question:
Cori.I'm looking to add a couple of items to my resume that would stand out as being a perfect match for a particular job. Where do I find sample job descriptions? I want to look at a job description (since I don't have the real one) for that job to target my resume to the position.

Answer:
This is a great question and a great technique to find a way to target your resume to the job you are applying to.  A few quick and easy ways to find job descriptions to help you with creating your resume are:
  1. Indeed.com Indeed is a great job search engine to use when looking for job descriptions.  You can type in the keyword (marketing) or title in quotes ("marketing manager") and see what jobs are posted and look at the job descriptions.
  2. Google.com Google is a search engine, like Indeed, except not just for jobs.  You can do several different searches to come up with great results on job description resources.  For example: project manager job description, job description for Chief Financial Officer. You will find several different sites that provide job descriptions.
  3. Bureau of Labor Statistics: Here you can find the Occupational Outlook Handbook, which provides hundreds of different jobs that you can find out about such as the training and education needed, earnings, expected job prospects, what workers do on the job, working conditions.  You can get some great ideas on keywords and descriptions that you can include in your resume.
