Acts 9:34-36 "Aeneas," Peter said to him, "Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and take care of your mat." Immediately Aeneas got up. All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord. In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas), who was always doing good and helping the poor
LIGHTHOUSES FOR JESUS
Before there were radios and Global Positioning Systems, a lighthouse could mean the difference between life and death for a sailor. When a large ship approaches land it needs to know where the water is deep. A wrong turn and the waves of the unforgiving ocean could dash the ship against rocks that lie just below the surface.
While the crew of a ship used to rejoice in seeing the lighthouse, it wasn't because of the lighthouse, but because what the lighthouse meant. It meant that home was near. It meant that the safety of the harbor was close.
The Apostle Peter and the good Christian woman Tabitha were lighthouses for Jesus. The light of their words and actions shone brightly to the people around them. But their words and actions weren't meant to bring glory to themselves, but to their Father in heaven, and His Son, Jesus.
Of course, Jesus is the greatest lighthouse, for the light of what He did for us on the cross not only leads us to heaven, it opens the door and ushers us in.
Not everyone has seen Jesus' light. So you and I can be lighthouses for Him. Through our words and actions we can get the attention of the world, and show them their Savior.
