Selling your work at local events is an important part of the research process. A local market or pop up shop is your best chance to meet customers face to face and do some basic customer research. It's useful to show them your work, to find out why they buy, when they buy, how much they'll pay and to see what others are selling. This sort of information will help you shape your brand, discover your price point and identify your customer base all of which are important when building a business.

FEATURED ARTIST
Jessie Nannette
Art in Mind | Take Flight | 8-19 August 2012 | The Annexe, 93-95 Sclater Street, E16HR
Nannette's photography captures moments perceivable only through a camera's distortion. Inspired by ephemeral light, blazing colours and its effect on nature, the artist sought to portray a semi whimsical world partly reliant on the viewers' imagination. Nannette's non- digitally retouched works display contrasting elements of eeriness, serenity and make-belief through use of an intense and fluctuating palette of colours and effects connected by scenery as seen through the woods.
All photographs are limited to an edition of 5.

PREVIEW: Thursday 16 August, 6-9pm
EXHIBITION: 17 August - 30 September, 2012
Contemporary Visions presents 10 contemporary international artists (selected from an pool of nearly 1800 applicants worldwide) who each question the destability of the image and of presence. The collective point of departure for each of the artists is precisely how a vision of reality becomes translated through the artistic frame of reference. The selected artists perceive reality as something that has been fragmented, reconstructed, and destabilized.
The exhibition includes: Matthew Allen, Gigi Cifali, Ronin Cho, Zavier Ellis, Rebecca Griffiths, Lindsay Mapes, Nigel Massey, Renato & Roberto Miaz, John Ryan, Fleur Van Dodewaard.

This month we recommend the Finborough Theatre's new production The Fear of Breathing. Based entirely on true stories from the Syrian uprising, The Fear of Breathing recounts individual experiences of the Syrian uprising in their own words. Gathered in secret by award-winning journalists, these accounts are at times humourous, at times shocking and always moving testaments of life at the heart of revolution. KGB-PROJECTS PRESENTS:
‘RELIGIONIS VIOLENTA’
“Those who believe in absurdities end up committing atrocities” [Voltaire, 1694-1778]
London - KGB-Projects presents Religionis Violenta, a sensational group show with some of the most prevalent artists from the UK and Malta, at the prestigious London West Bank Gallery in West London’s Notting Hill. The exhibition opens with a Private View and Launch Party on 6 September, 7pm with an Award Ceremony for Best-in-Show and Runner-up voted on by guests and announced on the evening.
Religionis Violenta is taken from the Latin meaning for violent religion. The concept of the show initially emerged as a spontaneous reaction to the popular catchphrase ‘Where’s your GOD now?’ and the many conflicts that occur in the name of religion in a historical context.
Expect a tantalizing experience of contemporary art that stimulates the senses not only through vision but also through sound, smell and touch!
Religionis Violenta will be showcasing artworks by 30 artists, focusing on dark humour, irony and obscenity, revealing the artists’ taste for a bittersweet use of blasphemy, a snigger at and caustic provocation, including: paintings, drawings, limited edition prints, artistic photography, inventive mixed media, sculptures and decorative art.
The gallery will be transformed into a place of irony, contemplation and judgment, with the opportunity for visitors to engage in the form of a freestanding confession booth, inviting guests to ‘confess’ for their favourite works of art on the evening of the Launch Party. A specially commissioned and unique musical script created by London-based duo Vision & the Riddle sets the mood and atmosphere of the exhibition.
The relationship between religion and HIV/AIDS is complicated and often controversial, as the Roman Catholic Church is still in serious denial about human sexuality, we therefore decided to donate part of the proceeds of the sale of the artwork to a charity called AidsArk. Religionis Violenta is supported by the following sponsors and media partners: Religion Clothing Ltd, Moncada Brewery, Rooms Art Uncovered Magazine and The Marshall Darlings Productions and is made possible with funding from the Malta Arts Fund.
PROVOKE, SHOCK AND AMEN TO THAT!
