CHAPEL CINEMA 7pm - FREE Doc Duck Goose Presents… film tbc

On November 9th we can’t wait to have Boat to Row and Snufkin play in our café. Boat to Row have played with the likes of Johnny Flynn, Dry The River, Willy Mason and Slow Club. Snufkin recently won Bath Folk Festival’s New Shoots Competition 2016. This will be a great chance to see the band play as a duo before they disappear into the studio to record their debut studio album.

Antonietta Torsiello will be exhibiting her work on the cafe walls - an award-winning visual and textile artist based in East London. Her latest exhibition AfriWest is a collection of textile and screen prints inspired by the parallels between African and Western culture. Her work is inspired by the contrast in natural craft vs man-made structures, drawing from the natural African crafts of wood carving, body scarification and the tribal decoration of the Surma and Mursi tribes of East Africa’s Omo Valley. Join us for the opening night where the artist will have a pop-up shop of textiles, prints and cards.

For the next couple of months we are teaming up with two great projects to curate and help run our weekly Chapel Cinema nights. Action On The Side are a local independent film-making collective who run month long (weekend-based) film making projects, allowing people to build a network of collaborators, share experience and start making films together in London. The second group Doc Duck Goose are programming an exciting series of stimulating character-based documentary films .

The month will also involve another special screening: The Road to Home. An award-winning documentary that tells the story of Benny Wenda, the Nobel Peace Prize nominated West Papuan independence leader, in his ongoing struggle to free his people from Indonesian colonial rule. Benny Wenda will also be present for a Q&A while the live music from The Lani Singers, performing West Papuan songs of freedom. The event aims to raise awareness of West Papua’s struggle and put the issue of self-determination into the spotlight. With the purpose of being inclusive and accessible to all, the event is FREE. However, there will be donation buckets floating around the proceeds of which will be going to the Free West Papua Campaign.

The Mouths Wide Shut poetry night will be moving into the café from their usual monthly slot in the chapel with an extra special end of year line-up.

To end on another exciting note, our ever popular Harry Potter quiz night You’re A Quizzard, Harry makes a comeback on Sunday 20th, so make sure you keep track of our website and social media for more details about the evening and ticket availability.

Led by Sylvia Morgado, this workshop last had a residency at the Barbican, so come along to create and interact.
Would you like to create your own beautiful, bespoke stationery? Join Hot Press to learn a variety of screen-printing and watercolour skills. We have scheduled 3 workshops that you will leave with stunning, hand crafted cards based on our range of designs, and a whole load of screen-printing and watercolour skills and tips in order to carry on developing your own artwork. You will also be provided with a digital file of your favourite design. Hot Press London is a bespoke stationary, illustration and print studio based in East London. It was founded by Naomi Howarth, an award winning illustrator, and Megan Ferguson Smyth, the owner of Harlow and Hare.
Sonia Bownes of London Craft Club will guide you through making beautiful, unique fabric envelopes in a relaxed two hour session. Choose five of your favourites from a mountain of lovely fabrics, and during the class we'll transform them into beautiful envelopes. Sonia will show you how to strengthen the fabric, cut the template and add a cute little popper to finish it off. Use them for those extra special Christmas letters, or as handy little pockets to store your precious keepsakes.

Maybe you would like to make your own pair of leather accessories? We have a workshop for that too, also with London Craft Club, this time on the 12th November
