My name is Carl Redwood, Jr., and I'm running as an Independent to represent District 10 in Allegheny County Council.

Running for the poor and working class. I am running to put people over profits in Allegheny County. A better County is possible. I see a future of housing for all, clean air and water for all, a livable climate for all, and a new vision of health and safety for all. This future will not be built overnight, but let's try, starting now.

Funded by the poor and working class. I have pledged to refuse donations from fossil fuel companies, health insurance interests, real estate interests, police unions and corporate PACs. A politician cannot put people over profits when their campaign is funded by the profits of powerful corporations. This campaign will be funded by the people.

Power to the poor and working class. To build a County for the working class, especially for our most vulnerable communities, we must organize collective organizations to build solidarity, and exercise democracy along with collective power. I will use my campaign and office to support the organizing of workers' unions, tenant unions, and a people's assembly, using both my power as a legislator and as a community organizer. I can't take on the rich and powerful alone, and I don't want to. We need power for the many—not the few.

Rep. Summer Lee Endorses Longtime Activist Carl Redwood's Independent Run for County Council District 10

Congresswoman Summer Lee has endorsed longtime community organizer Carl Redwood in his Independent candidacy for Allegheny County Council District 10.

"Carl Redwood has been fighting for housing for all, tenants rights, and power to the Black, poor and working class for longer than I have been alive. Carl has taught me — has taught many of us — how to organize for justice for all. He has proven he can lead, and I know he will help transform the Allegheny County Council into a council that works for all." said Congresswoman Lee. "That is why I am endorsing Carl Redwood for Allegheny County Council, District 10."

Carl Redwood is running a grassroots, Independent campaign against incumbent Democrat Dewitt Walton, who on County Council has voted against paid sick days, raising the minimum wage for county employees to $20 per hour, COVID testing for those at Kane Living Centers and Allegheny County Jail, and other key issues that Rep. Lee campaigns for at the federal level in Congress.

Rep. Lee's endorsement provides a significant boost to an already impressive list of endorsements from progressive elected officials and community organizations.
