NEW ARTS JOURNAL TO SHOWCASE
ARTISTS’ WORK WITH CHILDREN

A new arts journal showcasing the work of artists working with children and young people was launched in Dublin today. The Practice Journal, which will be published twice a year by Kids’ Own Publishing Partnership, will provide a space for critical engagement between professionals working in this area.

“The aim of the Journal is to promote and make visible the varied approaches, concerns, challenges and values around contemporary artists’ practice working with children and young people,” said Orla Kenny, Creative Director of Kids’ Own.

The new publication has emerged from Practice.ie, a groundbreaking website where artists from across the island of Ireland share and discuss their experiences of working with the young. Utilising the latest online social networking technologies, the site allows artists to interact with each other, collaborate and contribute to ongoing research.

“Each month, we publish essays on topics both central and peripheral to Practice.ie: the world of artists who work with children, who work in the public sphere, and who bring their practice online. The honesty with which artists talk about the challenges and rewards of working with young people is striking,” said Ms Kenny.

She said that the Practice Journal will create a permanent record of the valuable information gathered during the Practice.ie project.

The first issue of the Practice Journal (€5) is now available from www.practice.ie.
