Hello Firstname

Wednesday 4 September
We kick off the new 2019/20 programme with the Chairman's Evening. This will be your chance to see what Barry (Mead) has been up to over the past year or two, with an evening that promises to entertain with something for all. Barry will show us a mixture of his, now ubiquitous, creative images and plenty of new work of the "straight from the camera" variety.
Barry is the Society's most successful international exhibition worker, having gained the FIAP distinction of EFIAP/d3, so we are in for a visual treat. Mind you, you'll have to pay the price for this photo fest by putting up with his rubbish jokes and hearing how well each image has done on his route to EFIAP/d3!

Closing Date
Next Wednesday is also the closing date for the 1st Round of the 2019-20 PDI Competition season - the theme for the Prescribed Category section (for Advanced workers) is Machinery. Full entry details and rules can be found in your handbook on page 23 et seq.

Margaret Collis Exhibition
By the end of this week’s meeting, the Garmston Bowl and Creative Competition prints were gone and the walls of BPS were bare. From next week, however, we’ll be able to enjoy a retrospective exhibition by Margaret Collis ARPS DPAGB HonEFIAP APAGB AFIAP and long-standing BPS member. Over forty years of making prints, Margaret has produced a huge and wide-ranging body of work and she promises to fill our walls with an eclectic selection.

BPS Member To Walk His Socks Off To Support Autism!
BPS member, Phil Weston, is about to embark on a 100km (yes, you read correctly, that's one hundred!) in aid of Ambitious About Autism, which is the national charity for children and young people with autism. Phil has sent me the following;

Some of you will have heard that I intend to stretch my leg muscles again on Saturday 7 September with a 100 kilometre walk from Putney Bridge, London to Henley-on-Thames.

My aim will be to complete this ‘continuously’ (food/rest stops excepted) in as close to 24 hours as possible.

I will be walking with colleagues from work, Thornbury Community Services, and our objective is to raise as much money as possible for our nominated charity, Ambitious About Autism.

This is the national charity for children and young people with autism. They exist to enable children with autism to learn, thrive and achieve. Their ambition is to is to make the ordinary possible for more children and young people with autism.

Our company has its own Just Giving page and if you wish to donate could I please encourage you to do so via the link immediately below. Feel free to gift aid as well if appropriate.

If you are kind enough to donate could I please just request that you mention Phil within your message. That way, we know who people are sponsoring.

Thank you for reading this far and should you choose to donate may I express my sincere thanks.

Kind regards
Phil

PS - please donate to the Just Giving site highlighted and not direct to the charity.

RPS News
The RPS Western Region will be holding a meeting at Unit 13 which is open to all.

David Bathard FRPS will run a workshop at BPS Unit 13 on 8 Sept, 2.00 – 4.30:

How I approach panel making. I hope to give members inspiration for panels from my experience. Many people find that the jump from LRPS to ARPS and beyond so difficult as they often have little idea of how to proceed. I will have a number of print panels to show and would like members in the second half to bring and show any project that they have. I will not be judging anyone but would give them encouragement to find their route to a distinction and use the advisory days.

River Photos Wanted
We have received the following, which is self explanatory:

Subject: River photos request
Message: Hello, I hope it is OK to contact you with this query. My name is Harriet and I work for Bristol Avon Rivers Trust (BART), a small river restoration charity covering the Bristol Avon catchment. We are currently in the process of creating a new website that will enable us to keep people better updated on what we are up to, share opportunities for people to get involved, as well as to be able to better host data on the health of our rivers for everyone to access.

However, we are doing this on a budget using volunteer support, so that more of our funds can go directly into restoring our rivers. As part of this, we are in desperate need of photos for our new website. We were wondering whether anyone had any high resolution photos of the Bristol Avon or it's tributaries (Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Wiltshire) that they would be happy to share with us with credit given? If so, we would be really grateful! My email address is harriet@bristolavonriverstrust.org -Thank you!
