NEWS & ADVENTURES of a Philosophical Folk Songstress                                                       ~ April 2013

My Dear Ones,

A big warm welcome to those of you new to this newsletter. It is incredible to consider that with each and every one of you I have shared an evening or a conversation, an understanding, a connection in some way… I feel so grateful to be able to continue our connection through this monthly letter and through my music. It is an honor!

April brings Earth Day, brings opportunity to pause and truly consider the big challenges facing humanity and all life on earth at this pivotal point in history. My wish for each of us is that we may be aware of the serious and dangerous situation we are all in, and that we may each live knowing we are doing our part to change that. If you're not sure how to do that, I highly recommend the Awakening The Dreamer Symposium put on by the Pachamama Alliance. It is a very empowering thing to do.

And about music, which for me for now is my part, our Northwest Summer 2013 Tour is coming together, yay! I am so looking forward to seeing our Oregon & Washington friends again. This will be our first tour with the baby, and we will celebrate his first birthday while on the road. Are we crazy? Yes. Are we ridiculously happy spending our days doing all the things we love? Yes!

A few of the upcoming shows and classes I’m most excited about are listed below and a bunch more are on the website.

Here’s to a life of heart, spirit and commitment to what matters, Happy Earth Day!

Yours in Song,
 ~ Amanda

Songwriting Workshop at Women's Rock Camp
May 3rd - 5th, 2013 | Oakland, CA

I am totally thrilled to be leading the songwriting workshop for this awesome event! Women's Rock Camp is a fundraiser for the Bay Area Rock Camp for Girls. Wish that Girls Rock Camp existed when you were a kid? It's not too late! Women's Rock Camp is a 3-day musical adventure for women ages 19 and up. Campers attend instrument lessons, form bands, write songs together, participate in empowering workshops, and perform at a live showcase – all in one weekend. Amazing.

THE ART OF SONGWRITING ~ for students ages 12-17
Mon-Fri, July 8th - 12th 2013 | 3:30-5:30pm each day
@ The Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center | 9341 Mill St.| Ben Lomond, CA

~ A week of inspiration, exploration, tools & technique for the young songwriter ~
It is said that three chords and the truth are all that is needed to write a song, but how do you get there? Designed for students ages 12-17, The Art of Songwriting offers an interactive and safe space to discover and experiment with this deeply satisfying craft. For both experienced and beginning writers, musicians and non-musicians, all that is required to attend is an interest in songwriting, and a love of words and music. Students are encouraged to bring an instrument if they play one, and everyone should bring a notebook and pen. In part the class will be tailored to meet individual student’s needs and interests, but everyone will end the week with at least one completed new song. Be prepared to dig deep, make friends, and have fun!
