Genesis 18:1-2 The LORD appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby.

THE GOOD SERVANT SERVES

Does it ever seem to you that the concept of "service" is being lost in our society? I feel that way sometimes when I step up to the customer "service" counter at any number of businesses. It seems that the employees are less interested in helping me and more interested in grabbing their paychecks and getting home as soon as possible.

Our God, however, serves His people well. When He appeared near the great trees of Mamre along along with two angels, He had come to serve Abraham with a gracious promise. He had come to announce that He would give him a son, just as He had said before. By sending this child, He would not only be serving Abraham, but He would be serving the entire world. Through Abraham's descendants the Christ would eventually be born.

This week in our devotions, we will examine more closely several "aspects of service". We will see how Abraham served these visitors, how we might serve one another, and most importantly, how God in Christ has served us.
