There are many excellent foods that detoxify the body. One of the best is garlic, but all vegetables that contain sulfur are excellent. All sulfur rich vegetables help the body produce glutathione, which is called the master antioxidant and is what the liver uses to cleanse itself. The sulfurous vegetables are cauliflower, kale, broccoli, cabbage, kohlrabi, bok choy, mustard, watercress, asparagus, parsley, onions, brussels sprouts, chives, collard greens, green beans, sweet potato, spinach, split peas, leeks, tomatoes, peas, shallots, jicama, avocados and turnips.
Any food that increases detoxification will increase the body’s health and vitality, so getting lots of these foods into your body is an excellent idea. To do so is simple. Drinking detox soup along with sulfur water on a daily basis will aid you in the process.
Ingredients and Nutrients
The first ingredient in detox soup is bone broth. This can be made out of any kind of bones: beef, chicken, or fish, which must be cooked for at least eight hours to release all the nourishment they hold. Because bones are primarily made of minerals they have everything in them in the right ratios to remineralize your bones and teeth. They are particularly high in calcium, magnesium, phosphorous. potassium, flouride, and sulfate.
Saturating the body with minerals is important because heavy metals attach to the mineral receptor sites. When these receptor sites are full of minerals there’s no room for the heavy metals, which makes them easier to flush from the body. Minerals also act as chelators that actually flush heavy metals from the body.
The cartilage around the bone is full of chondroiton sulfate, glucosamine, hyaluronic acid, and the amino acid glycine, which is good for your joints and skin.
The cartilage and bone also contains gelatin, which is a source of extra protein and is nourishing to your hair, fingernails and connective tissue. Edgar Cayce says that gelatin is needed to get the minerals into the bones. Bone broth is actually a food that Edgar Cayce highly recommended for general nutrition and healing. Gelatin contains several amino acids: glycine, proline, hydroxyproline, lysine and hydroxylysine, which are known detoxification nutrients.
Mineral Absorption
Because it is energy intensive to simmer soup bones for eight or more hours,(I like to simmer mine from 12-16 hrs) my routine is to cook several beef bones in a large quantity of water once a month and then freeze the resulting liquid in quart containers.
Because minerals, when eaten, can’t be digested without stomach acid, a small amount of apple cider vinegar added to the cooking water helps to get the minerals out of the animal bones and into your‘s. (I soak my bones in apple cider vinegar for an hour before making the soup, use a half cup of vinegar.) I like using short ribs so I get some meat from the soup, but use a mixture of other bones too including marrow bones, and knucklebones. After the bones are simmered, the marrow and cartilage simply fall off the bone. They need to be left in the broth as they are full of nutrients.
Recipe
To make detox soup I start with a quart or more of bone broth and then add lots of fresh garlic to it. Next comes whatever sulfurous vegetables you like best. My favorite is cauliflower, but broccoli and cabbage are good too. Since my garden is full of kale and chard all year round I put in a generous amount of these vegetables as well. In addition I add an onion, carrot, and potato. Season with salt to taste.
Optional ingredients are fresh ginger, which is famous for its anti-inflammatory and digestion enhancing properties, and coconut milk. The oil within the coconut milk has many medicinal qualities, not the least of which is that it nourishes the myelin sheaths around the nerves. Coconut milk also contains many vitamins, minerals and electrolytes, including potassium, calcium and chloride
When the vegetables are cooked and cool enough, spoon this mixture into a blender and blend until smooth. Drink immediately. Delicious….
Store remaining soup in quart jars and reheat it anytime throughout the week that you desire a great nutrient dense snack. Good food makes the best medicine!
