HOLDEN HOUSE RECIPE SHARE: MAKE AT HOME
Gingersnap Baked French Toast - Holden House specialty*
Needed: 4 - 10 oz. oven proof casserole/baking (grab it bowls, quiche or rarebit dishes) *can also be made in one large baking pan and cut into squares to serve
4-6 slices French Bread (1/2” thick)
Liquid Mixture:
¼ cup butter, melted
3 eggs
½ cup milk
¼ cup pure maple syrup
¼ cup light molasses
Cream cheese blend:
1/2-8 oz package of cream cheese, softened
1 Tablespoon of Nutella® spread
Dry Mixture:
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon ground cloves
Pinch of salt
1 cup ground gingersnaps
- Start by thoroughly spraying non-stick spray in casserole dishes or baking pan.
- Mix first 5 liquid ingredients (butter, eggs, milk, syrup and molasses) together and mix dry spice mixture separately. Add ½ of the spice blend to the liquid and set the remaining spice blend aside. Mix Nutella® with softened cream cheese and mix into liquid. Break bread into small pieces then pour the liquid over top of bread and store overnight.
- Add remaining spice mixture just before baking to taste. Add dots of butter if bread seems dry. Bake at 350 degrees (convection oven) or 400 (regular oven) for 25-30 min. or until slightly brown and knife comes out clean. Remove from dishes onto plate and serve with garnish and a dollop of whipped cream.
- Serves approximately 4 persons. Enjoy!
