1 Thessalonians 5:5-9 You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
THAT DAY IS GOING TO BE AWESOME: LIVE LIKE CHILDREN OF THE DAY
The greatest Day of our lives is coming and God has made us children of the day so we can see its coming. Let's be further ready for that Day by living like we belong to the light and not living like those who are still in darkness.
We need to be sober and alert as Christ's second coming approaches. Engaging in sinful behavior like those who are in the darkness makes us less aware of that Day and less prepared for it. Lack of self-control evidenced by drunkenness, immorality, foolish talk, failure to show love toward one another, spiritual slumber, and indifference toward God and His word-- these are dark shadows that end in total darkness.
God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore don't even go where it is even a little dark. You are children of the light who see and look forward to Jesus' reappearing, and you have been appointed to receive salvation. So the darkness does not suit you. It's not who you are. It's not where you belong. Since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
That Last Day is going to be awesome! Get ready for it by living like the children of the light you are.
