YOUTHS OF SHASHA

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4th 2014. 7:30PM

Directed by Emanuele Cicconi, Documentary, 45 min, Ethiopia/ Italy, 2013, Jamaican/English/ with subtitles

Synopsis:
This documentary talks about the situation of the music-talented youth in Shashamane, Ethiopia. This is a piece of land that Haile Selassie gave to all Rastafarian people who decided to come back to Africa. They do not have a studio or music distribution deals that can support them. Yet, because they love and need to express themselves by music, they keep doing it, facing many obstacles.

SISTER WIFE

WEDNESDAY,  JUNE 11TH   2014. 7:30PM

Directed by Timna Goldstein, Documentary, 60 min, Israel  2000, English

Synopsis:
In 1969, weary of the harsh way of life in the U.S. ghettos and motivated by a sense of lack of origin, a number of African-Americans moved to southern Israel and established communities and a new identity. The members of these communities became known as the "Hebrew
Israelites"; they believe only in the Law of the Torah and, as in Biblical days, they practice polygamy, allowing their men to marry up to seven women.
