Many of you heard of the Waldo Canyon Fire. It has burned 18,000+ acres and destroyed 346 residents, and 2 were lost.
We watched it when the first smoke plumes appeared Saturday afternoon.
It also forced us to evacuate but what many people do not realize is that we were evacuated for 16 hours, that's it. We have been monitoring it ever since.
Thanks to the brave efforts of the firefighters and Mother Nature all of Manitou Springs was saved. There was not one house or structure lost or even damaged in our limits.
Randy is on the City Council so he has had more access and information then most and has been reassured that we are more then safe and that it is safe for our guests.
We have not had a problem with smoke. If you do not believe us, believe the federal officials when they say that we are up to 90% containment, (100% maybe as early as Friday but definitely by this weekend).
Containment means to smoke and no heat.
The fire is still burning on the Blodgett Peak, all the way over above the Air Force Academy.
We are open for business and have been the whole time. All of the area attractions are now open, including Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, the Incline, and the Pikes Peak Cog Railway.
