Status of DKGNA

The Deutsch-Kurzhaar Group North America Board of Directors has been successfully moving through the steps to membership in the DKV.  Currently the following is an overview of those efforts:
  • In December 2017 the DKGNA applied for membership DKV with a roster of seventy-four members.  All required documentation was presented, the membership fee was paid, and all requirements were fulfilled.
  • In December of 2017 the DKGNA was incorporated as a Utah non-profit corporation.
  • In January 2018 the DKGNA received its “IRS Determination Letter” stating that we received a 501(c) (3) classification.
  • In March 2018, at the DKV Annual General Assembly in Dipperz (Fulda), Germany the General Assembly was officially notified of the DKGNA application for membership.
  • After having been known to the General Assembly, at the earliest, at the next General assembly in March 2019, the DKGNA will be officially approved as a member of the DKV.
  • In August of 2018 the DKGNA published the first issue of our newsletter.
  • In August of 2018, with the support of Hunt Oregon, the DKGNA Annual Raffle tickets went on sale.
  • In December of 2018 the DKGNA applied for a 2019 DKV testing schedule. However, no tests can be conducted prior to DKGNA’s official DKV approval in March 2019.
  • In March 2019, at the DKV Annual General Assembly in Dipperz (Fulda), Germany the DKGNA will  officially be a member of the DKV.
  • Following approval by the DKV, in March of 2019, the DKGNA can register litters.
  • In March 2019, with the support of Hunt Oregon, the DKGNA 2nd Annual Raffle tickets will go on sale.
The DKGNA Board of Directors continues to work hard to position the club for success.  It is our hope that the DKGNA will be a model club where DK enthusiasts can work together to educate all interested persons in the techniques of training, breeding and caring for continental hunting dogs; to conduct tests of continental hunting dogs; to promote responsible breeding of continental hunting dog breeds; foster, improve, promote, and protect the continental hunting dog breeds in North America; and promote the interest of wildlife by fostering ethical hunting and the conservation of game through educational programs, the use of properly trained hunting dogs, and other means.

The DKGNA will be conducting our 2nd Annual Raffle this year with the assistance of Hunt Oregon, LLC.  This is an opportunity to help ourselves and benefit the educational efforts of the Deutsch-Kurzhaar Group North America (DKGNA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

The trip includes transportation to and from the Pasco, WA, airport and bird processing is included. Hunters are responsible for their licenses and ammunition.

Two other prizes will be included in the raffle.  Winners for the raffle will be drawn in November 2019 or when the number of sold tickets reaches 125. Tickets are $100 each and all proceeds benefit DKGNA events and its educational efforts.

My name is John Heiner, from American Fork, Utah.  I live there with my wife Melanie, our four daughters, and our son.  Professionally I work in the Technology Software industry and in Real Estate Development.

I was drawn to the Deutsch-Kurzhaar breed nearly two years ago my cousin Paul Swenson went missing.  We were searching fanatically to bring Paul home to his wife, his daughter, and the rest of his family and friends.  Due to massive interest in Paul’s story, it made national headlines.  Many people joined in the effort including Tyler Smith of vom Hochland DK.  Tyler is connected by family to Paul as well.  Tyler showed up with his dog and spent hours searching.  We never found Paul during those searches, but I learned a ton about the German DK breeding system and the versatility of the DK.  Paul’s body was later discovered which devastated all those who loved Paul.  It was during that time that I decided I had to have a DK.

We had had dogs in the past.  We just lost our beloved Miniature Schnauzer Bella. I was raised with springer spaniels and somewhere in all that an English bulldog. That said, at this time you could say we are all in on DKs.  Currently we have two female DKs,  (Izzy) Isobel Vom Hidden Creek and (Rey) Braya Vom Hochland.  Both Izzy and Rey will enter their first test with the Derby April 2019.  Testing is new to me as we’ve historically had simple hunting companions that were effective in the field.
