Hello Firstname

Wednesday 14 March

Next week we have a visit from Adrian Langdon ARPS DPAGB from Cornwall who will be presenting his talk called, surprisingly, An Evening With Adrian Langdon.

Adrian says of the evening: "I am essentially a natural history photographer and have been a member of the Wadebridge & District Camera club for 42 years and more recently have chaired the Cornwall Wildlife Trust Photographic Group for 15 years.
Birds and mammals are my main passion and I love nothing better than sitting in the middle of a river in a canvas hide waiting to see what turns up!
In my talk I intend to show some of my favourite photos and to also show pictures of the hides, scaffolding etc. that I used to get the photos.

I’ll be looking at birds firstly followed by mammals and others after the break. I’m also keen to chat to members about any aspect of both the photography and/or the wildlife as we progress through the evening."
Below are a couple of Adrian's images to whet your appetite:

Digital Imaging Group
All members are welcome at the monthly meeting of the DI Group next Monday, 12 March. The evening will take the usual format of informal discussion and presentation of pictures brought in by members. Images can be either prints or jpegs (on USB memory sticks only in a folder of your name, please) and can be just to show off what you have been doing lately or to show for discussion and comments if you wish. If you have problems with any images you would like some help on from other members please feel free to bring them along.

There will be a short demo illustrating the concept and the power of layers in Photoshop. Layers can be a very useful tool for enhancing your image and absolutely essential for creative photography. It should be of interest to those who are beginning to use digital processing seriously in Photoshop or Elements and also to those who use Lightroom where the layer tool is not available. Ashwin is hoping to arrange more demos for future meetings.

And don't forget, there are always Ashwin's world famous chocolate biscuits!

A Gripe From The Kitchen
I have received the following from Gill Peeke, who week in, week out, works to make sure that you have refreshments during the break:

Last Wednesday, I was most upset at the beginning of the evening to find several dirty mugs left in a bowl of dirty water - I do not expect to have to clean up after adults. Then, on setting up the speaker's tray, I found that four very dirty cups had been put back in the cupboard; which meant I had to wash these. The rack from the microwave had been left out and was covered in grease, that also had to be cleaned. I appreciate it that other people, other than BPS members, also use the Clubroom (and provide us with good revenue), but it is not very pleasant for anyone to have to clean up before they can start to use the facilities.

Will you please be more considerate in future. Thank you. Gill

Swaps: Photographs from the David Hurn Collection. Until 15 April at the National Museum, Cardiff. This exhibition celebrates the major gift of photographs from David Hurn’s private collection and marks the opening of Amgueddfa Cymru’s first gallery dedicated to photography.
Throughout his career as a documentary photographer and member of Magnum Photos, Hurn has been an avid collector of photography. Remarkably, he has amassed his private collection by swapping works with other photographers.
The collection comprises approximately 700 photographs by leading 20th and 21st century photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eve Arnold, Sergio Larrain, Bill Brandt, Martine Franck, Bruce Davidson and Martin Parr, through to emerging photographers such as Bieke Depoorter, Clementine Schneidermann, and Newsha Tavakolian.
The exhibition presents a selection of works that reflect on Hurn’s own career and influences, his eye for a good photograph and the friendships he has developed with photographers along the way.

Thanks to Dave Lawlan for this

ITS NOT PARTICULARLY EASY FINDING "DATES FOR YOUR DIARY", SO I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF MEMBERS COULD LET ME KNOW OF ANY EVENTS, EXHIBITIONS OR PICTURE LOCATIONS THAT THEY THINK WOULD BE OF INTEREST. DATES AND WEB LINKS WOULD HELP

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Well done to BPS members at the recent Southampton International Exhibition. Six of our members gained acceptances, with Jeff Hargreaves being awarded a brace of Southampton Certificates. The full list is (number of acceptances in brackets):
David Alderson (1), Peter Brisley (5), John Chamberlin (5), Jeff Hargreaves (6), Barry Mead (1) and Sue O'Connell (4).

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
