Ron Lane - BPS's Oldest Member Has Passed Away

Some of our older members will remember Ron Lane. Ron celebrated his 100th birthday in January of this year, however he became ill shortly afterwards and unfortunately passed away on March 11. Ron was an Honorary Life Member and for many years was the Society's Treasurer, he was President from 1981 to 1986. He moved to Fareham some fifteen years ago to be closer to his daughter and family, where he died. |

Day In The Life - Bristol
|
Cartridge World are working with an award-winning photographer called Mark Waugh and are calling on keen amateur and professional photographers from the (Bristol) surrounding areas to take part in a free photography workshop with him and then head out into the streets to capture as much of the city as possible in 24 hours.
Afterwards, the images will all be transformed into a piece of art that will be displayed in the city.
It's a really exciting project and Cartridge World would love to know if this is something you might want to be involved in. Here's the link to find out more and direct readers to sign up.

How To Shoot Summer Pictures
|
A not to be missed opportunity for a small group interested in plant and garden photography to spend a day working with a professional photographer. Join a guided walk around the Bristol University Botanic Garden to identify Summer highlights, followed by the opportunity to capture your own images with guidance from the tutor. The day will conclude with an informal, friendly discussion of your selected images and a chance to ask questions.
Anyone wishing to improve their digital outdoor photography should benefit from this day. An understanding of the basics of photography would be an advantage. You will need to know the basic functions of your camera.

Cost: £50.00 per person which also includes a light lunch.
How to enrol
Please note that they accept enrolments online only.

Following the article about Nik Software in Issue 243 of the newsletter the article mentioned Google's acquisition of Nik Software and the fact that they are now offering free download of the entire suite of programmes. The down side of this is that Google have announced that there will be no further development to the software. This suite of programs is much used by many photographers and as a result, a petition has been started to try to persuade Google to continue to develop the software or to allow other developers to continue to update it. The petition now stands at over 14,000 names, but many more are needed before it is submitted.

The excellent LCE (London Camera Exchange) Baldwin Street are holding a photography event at Leigh Court (Grade II listed building in Abbots Leigh, Bristol). It comes under the heading of Bristol Leica Group but we are assured it is NOT restricted to Leica photographers. Wth 6 models plus access to the entire grounds and every single room for the whole day it is quite a big deal!! Cost just £20 for the day but places are limited to around 15. Only proviso is that models get use of images for their portfolios. Our understanding is that copyright stays with photographer (but please check this). Check out the Bristol Leica Photography Group on Facebook and if interested call Tom (LCE) on 01179 29 1935 to reserve a place.

ITS NOT PARTICULARLY EASY FINDING "DATES FOR YOUR DIARY", SO I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF MEMBERS COULD LET ME KNOW OF ANY EVENTS, EXHIBITIONS OR PICTURE LOCATIONS THAT THEY THINK WOULD BE OF INTEREST. DATES AND WEB LINKS WOULD HELP
|
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
|
If you have something photographic that you want to sell, let me have the details and I will circulate them to a captive audience of photographers through the Newsletter - send to the usual address.
|
Would all members please note: before you plan your shoot and book your model, you should check whether the studio/clubroom will be free. This can be done easily and at any time by viewing the Clubroom Bookings calendar in the Members' Area of the BPS Website. Bookings can (and must) be made by contacting Mike Bigger at bookings@bristolphoto.org.uk.
Log in details to the Members' Area are at the end of this newsletter.
