1 Peter 1:10-11 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
EVEN FOR PREACHERS
Someone once wrote a book titled "Can Preachers Be Saved?" It was not a joke, but recognized that frail human beings are entrusted with dispensing the Holy Word of God by which the heaven's were made (Psalm 33). If a preacher makes a mistake in handling that powerful sharp Sword, might he not be in the greatest danger of all?
It was true in Old Testament times. "Let the one who has my word speak it faithfully ... declares the LORD" (Jeremiah 23:28).
How amazing, then, that the prophets who faithfully preached the Word of the Lord still searched that Word intently and with greatest care trying to learn more about the plan of salvation, the sufferings and glory of Christ! They didn't wait until they knew everything there was to know before they proclaimed the clear Word of God, but kept on studying!
Our preachers do the same. Even though they have read the Bible from cover to cover, and have proclaimed it, perhaps for many years, they continue to search it intently and with the greatest care. They didn't wait until they knew everything before preaching, and they keep studying.
But the keys have been given to every believer, to share God's forgiveness of sins wherever He gives the opportunity. And no believer has to wait until he knows everything before he can say anything, for it is God's Word and it is He who is speaking.
