Hello, Firstname

ZOOM - Reminders
Last week I didn't send out a Zoom reminder. Unfortunately there was a 20% drop in numbers attending the talk this week - I can't tell if this was a direct result of the lack of a reminder, but just in case, I will reinstate the Tuesday reminders.

Wednesday 15 July - Zoom

Next Wednesday, 15 July, we have something a little different. The talk is being given by Nigel Goldsmith and will be called The Selfie Help Workshop. The clue is in the title and the evening is in effect an on-line workshop.

The modern smartphone is a highly capable tool for capturing photographs and video if used with care. This practical online workshop is aimed to help you to understand and exploit the potential of the smartphone for capturing high quality photographs and video.
The workshop covers; focus control, exposure adjustment, supports and stability, special effects such as live picture (iOS) and panoramic pictures, accessories, video and sound recording.

As this is a practical workshop, to maximise the benefit of the session, you will be advised to collect some common objects and items for some of the activities. Either find a small white object and a white background (sheet of paper or sheet) and or a dark object and a dark background. A 3-4 meter length of string may also be useful.

Monday 13 July - DI Group
DI Group – Monday 13 July

BPS is now well settled into Zoom meetings with some very inspiring speakers. If you have had opportunity to create new images or, like me, sorting out the long forgotten archives to find gems among them, the next DI meeting on Monday 13 July gives you the opportunity to show off your work to fellow members. So far the online presentations have worked well especially when relevant information about the image content and/or techniques is also given at the presentation.

Because I have to arrange all of them in a single folder in some kind of order for ease of presenting smoothly please send the digital images to reach me by Sunday 12 July, 6 pm. As before the images should be JPG format, sRGB colour space and keep the image size to 1600 x 1200 pixels as in the club competitions. The size restriction is not strict but it allows me to receive the images as attachments within the 20 Mb limit per email. Please prefix the filename with 01, 02, 03 etc. if you wish so that they will be shown in that order. Now that members are getting used to the Zoom protocol I hope some discussion will be possible.

    Please send images to: dig@bristolphoto.org.uk

    Working with Textures
Jane Lazenby is best known for her creative and equine images, many of which
reflect her previous career as a professional portrait artist. This presentation
introduces the world of textures, adding a creative and artistic flair to your images.
The goal is not only to understand what a texture is, but also to understand when
to use them. Jane will discuss sourcing and creating textures with examples of her
own award-winning images, then how to use blend modes followed by three
different methods of how to apply textures to an image.

Tickets for this online event are free for Digital Imaging Group members.

But everyone is welcome, with tickets for non-members £2.

This event will take place via video-conference using Zoom.
See the booking page for more information.

    Books & Camera Sale
Please note, the unsold items listed in the two emails sent to you this week will be held until Wednesday 22 July. Any items unsold at that time will be sent to MPB as they have already quoted to purchase the items.

What I omitted to include, was a Billingham S4 Camera Bag. This cost £245 new (about 18 months ago) and has hardly been used, in fact to look at you'd think that it had never been used - for full details, please follow this link. I'm looking for offers in excess of £125.

    Membership Renewal
The keener eyed among you may already have noticed an additional line at the top of the newsletter, your membership renewal date is now included - so it should no longer come as a shock when Carol sends you an invoice!

    Trumpet Blower's Corner
Mike Martin continues to get acceptances. He had 9 out of 12 entries accepted in the Midland Salon and a mere 6 out of 16 accepted in the Creative DigiPix Salon 2020 (India), but this did include a Diploma!
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
