Wednesday 19 December - INVITATION
|
You are cordially invited to the social gathering of the year when anybody who is anybody will be congregating at 12 West Mall to celebrate the end of another successful year at BPS and also the small matter of Christmas.
This will be the final meeting of the year, when you get a chance to let your hair down (those that have any, that is!) and enjoy some convivial festive chat and fodder and to mix with members you don't normally get a chance to chat to on a Wednesday evening.
Please bring along some party food or drink (don't go too mad, a half decent caviar and a bottle of bubbly will suffice).
Joking aside, this is a good time for the newer members to get to know some of the more established members of the Society in an informal atmosphere, and who knows, you (established members) might even be able to pick up a few tips & tricks to improve your photography.
Dress - Casual with an air of the festive!
|
This has been a good year for BPS. We had another successful Salon with an increased entry making it the largest exhibition of its type in the UK, the Photography Course again sold out and, judging by the nearly "full house" attendance every week, it was a resounding success - if the quality of the end of term competition was anything to go by, there are now a few very good photographers being unleashed on the world.
The list of Society Officers has remained unchanged this year with one exceprtion, Chris Hirons resigned the post of Society Librarian after having done a sterling job for the past few years, this mantle has now been donned by Mike Bigger who has also joined Council, thanks to you both.
Individual members were also very succesful in international exhibitions with many acceptances and awards being gained. Photographic Distinctions were gained aplenty and I apologise if I've missed anyone off the list and I'm sure I'll be receiving a high speed email if I've forgotten someone:

The list of available judges is not a never ending one and the Competition Secretaries do not always find it easy to get a complete list of fresh faces ready by the commencement of each new competition season; after all we don't want to see the same old faces turning up time after time. It is an unfortunate fact, therefore, that it is not always possible to publish these lists at the beginning of the programme year; so please be patient if the list isn't published in time for the beginning of the competition season, the names will be published (editorial cock ups permitting) in time for you to put your entry together ready for the next closing date.

Traditional Photographic Courses
|
St Pauls Darkrooms is running a series of courses on traditional photography during January and February which might prove of enterest to members. The courses cover subjects ranging from getting to know your camera through traditional darkroom techniques to basic studo lighting. Details can be seen by following this link.
The darkroom is a purpose built photography facility, for the practice of traditional "silver", wet-based photography. The centre teaches some of the oldest photographic techniques still available. Through alternative and archaic "chemical" processes, they aim to highlight the continuing and relevant use of these methods in use today, along with the growing revival of analogue photography. These public access darkrooms are open 7 days per week and are located at St Pauls Learning and Family Centre, 94 Grosvenor Rd, St Pauls, Bristol BS2 8XJ, tel: 0117 914 5470. Their website can be found here.
Thanks to Nicola Williams for the above.
