ClassicarGarage Newsletter 25, November 24 2008
The last weekend king winter has shown his face in our region for the first time this year. People in large parts of Europe woke up under a blanket of snow. We hope you took advantage of our winter service and garaging tips presented in our previous newsletter! In several European countries salt was used on the snowy and icy roads. We advise classic car owners who still want to drive their classic car in these regions to wait. It takes at least three intense showers of rain for the salt to wash away from the streets. In this newsletter we present nine new arrived classic cars. Amongst others a magnificent 1955 Porsche 356 Pre A Speedster and a relatively scarce and extremely fast Triumph TR 250! We also pay attention to the InterClassics & TopMobiel classic car show which will be held again the Maastricht MECC in January 2009. Last but not least we inform you about a beautiful book which was published on the Dutch market this week. The English version 'The fate of the sleeping beauties' will be published in the months to come. Sincerely, Click the photographs to view the photo reportages immediately!

The fate of the sleeping beauties
Between the years 1948 and the seventies of the twentieth century the Frenchman Michel Dovaz collected over sixty classic automobiles. Amongst others 21 Bugatti's were part of his collection. Dovaz kept his collection in barns and on the premisis of his farm in Villemarechal, 100 kilometers south of Paris. The collection was discovered in 1983 by the German photographer Herbert W. Hesselman. In cooperation with author Halward Schrader the beautiful photobook 'Sleeping Beauties' was published. The book showed magnificent images of serene immobility. Classics covered with thick layers of dust and classics which had become one with nature... This classic book is still available via Amazon.com. After publication of the book 'Sleeping Beauties' Michel Dovaz was heavily criticized by many classic car enthusiasts. They detested the way he 'neglected' the beautiful and scarce automobiles in his collection. Michel Dovas received threatening phonecalls and letters from all over the world. Dovas sold a part of his collection and he managed to hide the remaining cars... Now, 25 years later, you can read his story. This month the Dutch book ’Het lot van de Slapende Schoonheden’ was published. An English version will be presented very soon titled: 'The fate of the sleeping beauties'. The authors Ard and Arnoud op de Weegh and Kay Hottendorff investigated the whereabouts of the collection and the sold cars. The thorough investigation, an interview with Michel Dovaz and beautiful photographs make this book a must have! Click here to visit the website of the authors for more information.
