Hebrews 9:13-14 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more will the blood of Christ cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

BLOOD THAT ENERGIZES

Here is another aspect we may consider in our discussion of the blood that God's Son shed for us on Calvary. The author of Hebrews reminds us that as those who have been washed, sanctified, justified through faith in the Savior, we have the Spirit-given ability to serve Him in love in whatever earthly calling He has given us. We are privileged to let our Christian light shine through deeds of kindness we do at church among our fellow-Christians, at home among spouse and family, at the workplace among colleagues, at school, on the playground, wherever we may be.

One special act of Christian service we're blessed to be able to perform for Jesus is to help others to anchor their hopes in Him, too, by spreading the Good News of all He has done for us unworthy sinners.

Savior, Thy dying love Thou gavest me;
Nor should I aught withhold, Dear Lord, from Thee.
In love my soul would bow, My heart fulfill its vow,
Some offering bring Thee now, Something for Thee.

Give me a faithful heart, Likeness to Thee,
That each departing day Henceforth may see
Some work of love begun, Some deed of kindness done,
Some wanderer sought and won, Something for Thee.
(The Lutheran Hymnal, 403:1, 3)
