Matthew 10:31 "Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows."
MORE VALUABLE THAN THE SPARROWS
In Jesus' day you could buy sparrows dirt cheap, two for just a penny. Even today the tiny sparrow is considered by most to be of very little value.
Yet the Creator thinks otherwise. He cares about the tiny birds of the air. Not one of them falls to the ground apart from His will. These little creatures matter very much to God.
What about you? What about me? Aren't there times when we feel rather worthless, as if we are no more valuable than a dirty penny?
Take heart, as much as God values the birds of the air, you and I are worth far more to Him than many, many sparrows. At times we may feel worthless, but in Heaven, where it really matters, we are treasured beyond measure.
But why are we valuable to God? It's not because we've measured up to God's expectations, or that we possesses any innate goodness that would put such a high price tag on us. It's just the opposite. What Paul writes in Romans applies to us all: "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells" (Romans 7:18).
We are valuable to God because God is love, and we human beings are the great objects of His love. God doesn't love us because we are valuable, rather we are valuable because God loves us. He loved the world so dearly, including you and me, that, in order to atone for all human sin, He sent His only Son to suffer death and damnation in our place. Your value and mine is seen in Jesus' cross! Look at what Jesus went through for us! We weren't cheap!
When we see our value in the light of God's sacrificial love for us, then we also find incredible worth in serving God everyday with our hearts, our hands, and voices.
When we know Jesus as our Lord and Savior we can never really feel worthless.
