Wade Battles Cancer
In early December, Wade underwent an 8 hour surgery to remove tumors from his liver and his colon. The surgeon announced that the surgery went better than expected, that he was able to get everything he wanted to get. A recent scan shows that indeed happened and no new tumors have developed - Wade is tumor free! He has gained back some of the weight he had lost. He will continue chemotherapy for 4 more months - through the month of June.

Cards may be sent (please, no gifts, Wade is adamant about that)

Wade to Appear at the Stars Go Blue - Colon Cancer Alliance Benefit
The Country Music Hall of Fame is the site for this year's 4th annual event, Stars Go Blue. On the evening of March 6th, Wade will join Trace Adkins and Exile to raise money for the Blue Note Fund. This fund assists those who have been diagnosed with colon cancer.
The event was created by four-time Grammy nominee, Charlie Kelley (who currently plays guitar for Jamie O’Neal) who is a colon cancer survivor. His cancer was discovered near the time that his wife, Nan Kelley (well known as a host on GAC-TV) completed her cancer treatments for lymphoma.

No Friends' Fest This Year
June will be Wade's final month of chemotherapy. He is planning no appearances during that time. I told him we'd have a celebration Friends' Fest next June during CMA Music Fest week. We'll all miss it this year, but we surely understand what stress his body will be going through during that time.

The featured Subscriber Extra this month is an audio file. Wade co-wrote the song, "Nothing But a Cloud" for the McHayes project. The Album, Lessons in Lonely, was released only to radio and is very hard to find.

News Page - Wade to play the Colon Cancer Alliance Benefit - Stars Go Blue

If you don't have this in your collection, your missing a real gem. listed it as one of its top 10 albums of 2009 - "the most underrated album of the year."

In their review - "With apologies to Yogi Berra, it’s time to rediscover Wade Hayes for the first time. Place To Turn Around is everything that is great about indie records. Imagine hanging around your favorite honkytonk bar and hearing an artist singing great neo-traditional country music with acoustic guitars, fiddle and steel and buying an album at the side of the stage following the performance. And then imagine that the artist you were listening wasn’t some unknown band, but a road-tested Nashville songwriter and musician with many hits under his belt. That is the experience of listening to Wade Hayes brand new album" ..  Read More

Two cuts from the McHayes Album have been added to iTunes and
Wade and Mark McClurg teamed together for a short time as the duo McHayes. Their album, Lessons in Lonely,  was not released to the public. (A shame, really, there was some great music on it.) iTunes and have added two cuts from that project. It Doesn't Mean I Don't Love You, written by Trent Willmon, has Wade singing the lead and Mark doing the high harmony. The Wrong Kind of Right has Mark singing the lead and Wade doing the harmony.
Taste of Country site has articles on Wade's bout with Cancer
"After a successful surgery for his battle with stage IV colon cancer in December, Wade Hayes is finally on the right side of recovery. The ‘Old Enough to Know Better’ and ‘I’m Still Dancin’ With You’ hitmaker has spent two months getting chemo therapy treatment and is now seeing the results his friends, family and fans have been praying for since news of his illness broke late last year."

We've added a link to a new review of the album, Place to Turn Around. This one, written by Cheryl Hill, is featured on the Nuts About Country web site.
"If you line up all of the albums by Wade Hayes, from the first one (Old Enough to Know Better – 1994) to the current one, Place To Turn Around, you can't help but notice the covers are an accurate photographic reflection of the evolution of the man and so it should come as no surprise that the album contents are indicative of how his music has kept pace and grown with him. The best part is, like the proverbial fine wine, Hayes has only gotten better over time."  Read more
