Message from our District 13 Vice-President

Dear Members, Friends & Colleagues,

Bob PopekWith the start of 2007, I am now entering the second year of my term as the District 13 Vice President. While many members may not be aware of the society structure, the District 13 is comprised of 5 sections (at present) which includes Sarnia, Toronto, Montreal, and Saguenay and of course Hamilton. As an organization, we have 14 districts that encompass the globe. During the Fall Leadership Meeting in Oct 2006 it was reported that the ISA had experienced an increase in membership which is an upward trend that has been a long time in coming. This is a turn around that can be attributed to the hard work of the ISA executive, the recent hiring of our new Marketing Director and the change in the ISA imaging and marketing campaign. The results of the significant marketing changes that ISA has made in 2006 is leading us in positive direction for growth and a good outlook for 2007.

The advancements that ISA has made into marketing our 5 core competencies, Standards, Certification, Education & Training, Publishing, Conferences & Exhibits, seems to be paying off. The marketing strategy has created a focused awareness of ISA benefits and a path to attract new members. Our new “Connections” DVD outlines the benefits of joining ISA and is a valuable marketing tool for all members to use in recruiting new members. Please check out this new DVD on –line at the following link. To view ISA Connections (QuickTime), please click here.  Keep up the effort to grow our society. The new ISA branding has also generated a new look and a new slogan “Setting the Standard for Automation”, where anything can be accomplished if we work together.

In this my second year as D13 VP I have the opportunity to represent our District 13 at the highest level within ISA; the ISA Executive Board. For those that are not familiar with the ISA executive board, it is the senior governing body of ISA. It is composed of the society President, President-elect Secretary, Past President, Treasurer, six members each from the Board of District Vice Presidents and the Board of Department Vice Presidents, the Parliamentarian (non-voting), and Executive Director (non-voting).

I wish to welcome Kalpen Vachharajani to the ISA executive. He is a Sarnia executive member and will be my successor as District 13 VP starting in January 1, 2008. Kalpen is not totally new to ISA executive as he has served as a past Division executive. Kalpen and I will be attending the ISA Leader Training in Raleigh, N.C. in Feb 2007. The workshop is a chance to learn more about ISA operations and practices as well as some networking with fellow ISA executives.

Our District 13 Leadership Conference (DLC) is scheduled for May 4-6, 2007 in Sarnia. I will be following up with the Sarnia section in the new year to see how the plans our progressing. The DLC is a chance for our section executives to get some training in their roles and to network with their piers.

I count on your support.  Please feel free to contact me with your questions, comments and ISA requirements.

Regards to all,
  Bob Popek

Message from our Hamilton Section Vice-President

Wishing All of You a Very Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New Year,

Jack VincentHard to believe that by the time you receive this message, the Holiday Season will be but a faded memory. Time is speeding right along as we are already half way through our 2006/2007 season. Time is drawing closer to when I will be asked to attempt to fill the shoes of Jerry who has given us solid leadership during his tenure as Section President.

When the idea of being a Section President was brought to my attention, my immediate thoughts were toward a feeling of inadequacy as far as what I could offer to the section. We have had some great Presidents over the years who stand out as leaders in our industry. However, in all of this, I am comforted to know that we have a dedicated Executive who have been and I know will continue to be, a pleasure to work with and will provide the support we’ll need “to get the job done”.

We have an exciting year lined up for our members. Our monthly membership meetings  (the last Tuesday of each month) have been a great venue for the local community of automation professionals to meet, learn and network.   This year's EXPO, our annual Exhibition and Conference,  is shaping up to be our best and biggest,  and of course our Annual General Meeting in May where we'll feature Randy Park. Keep on checking our website for details.

So come on out and take advantage of what it means to be an ISA Member.

Yours Truly,
  Jack A. Vincent, CSP
