The idea of this Encyclopaedia comes from my interest in photography books published in the Thirties and Forties and also from my desire to share the photos I produce. For this reason I decided to create my own book, not only to produce the images I need, but also to learn printing the book myself.
KLEINE FOTOENZYKLOPÄDIE (small photo Encyclopaedia) corresponds to the iconographic research I did during my artist’s residencies and travels in 2014 and 2015. Each place of residence (Genoa, New York, Detroit, Bogotá, Tirana, Mexico, Chicago) gave me the inspiration to develop my project and collect images of different themes. As a photographer I want to document and to offer a unique vision of a place, an object, a building or a person.

This collection of 645 photographs is arranged in 37 chapters, among which are: WOLKENKRATZER (skyscraper) BLUMEN AUS KOLUMBIEN (flowers of Colombia), GEGESTÄNDE AUS DER ELTERLICHENWOHNUNG (decorative objects from the house of my parents), PATISSERIEN AUS CHINATOWN (cakes from Chinatown), MAIS- UND KARTOFFELSORTEN (varieties of corn and potatoes), WEIHNACHTEN IN NEW YORK (christmas in New York)…

Since I moved with my partner in a building of a former offset printing company in Biel, I was struck by the idea to learn everything about offset printing. The former owner taught us the whole process within 2 months, to be able to print the entire book ourselves. - Guadalupe Ruiz

Max Pinckers - Lotus - Signed

152 Pages / Hardback / 1st edition

price: 48€

In the series Lotus, Max Pinckers and Quinten De Bruyn document the world of transsexuals in Thailand. The gender crisis that the so-called ladyboys face is transformed into a visual metaphor about the identity crisis that contemporary documentary photography currently encounters, when it dares to reflect upon itself critically, and confront its paradoxes. The documentary photographer that captures reality as ‘a fly on the wall’ can’t deny his or her directive and manipulative role any longer. The anonymity, the seeming absence, is merely a pose. The tableaux that the photographer captures are not lies, but enfold themselves within the studio that he or she creates from reality.

Trauma proposes the idea  about photographs that suffer some kind of damage (pathology) which disturbs his documentary foundation and  disables  to “live” in a file. But, as with orchids cancer, the disease gives them an extraordinary plastic uniqueness. The only one explanation for the readers of
these images on the cover is the original transposition of the book Sigmund Freud `s  “The Interpretation of dreams”  (1900) but with a slight conceptual intervention, “Traum” (dream) has been replace by “Trauma”.
Fontcuberta has investigated  into differents asturians photo libraries to search for those patients in traumatic state . As the foundational work of psycolanalysis, the cover includes a poetic quote from
The Aneid  by Virgilio “flectere if nequeo superos, movebo Acheronta" (If I can not persuade the gods of heaven, I will move to the Hells)

Cristina De Middel - Muchismo - Signed

180 pages / 17x24cm / 120 Images / English + Spanish /

price: 34€

In the work Muchismo, the photographer Cristina de Middel digs around in her studios and brings all of her images to light, exactly the way she has them stored, in colossal, gorgeous chaos, to show them in the exhibition of the same name to be held in June at the Teatro Fernán Gómez in Madrid. This is a sui generis display of her entire oeuvre, with neither a curator nor any apparent order, which seeks to question the art market and its rules.
At the same time, the artist is holding another exhibition of the Antipodes series in La Fábrica (Madrid), a series made up of pictures taken in New Zealand in which the artist strives to bring depth back to landscape photography by using mirrors and her own devices. Both works are captured in this publication, a book that had become an object of desire even before it materialised, as always happens with the works of one of the most fascinating photographers on today’s scene.
