Hello Firstname

Wednesday 14 January
Next Wednesday is what has become a regular fixture, a "battle" with Reflex Camera Club from St Annes. This is a fun evening with a serious side - we want to WIN!
The judge is Sandie Cox ARPS from Tetbury, Sandy is the joint Members' Exhibition Secretary for the WCPF.

Digital Imaging Group
Next Monday, 12 January is the monthly meeting of the DI Group. All current members are welcome and the meeting will start at 7.30. Please bring along any pictures you'd like to share with the rest of the group, prints or projected (please make sure that projected images are jpegs only on a USB memory stick); Ashwin will be bringing along some images from his recent trip to India (as well as some rather nice chocolate biscuits!)

Projected Image Competition - Round 3
Next Wednesday is the closing date for the 3rd Round of the Projected Image Competition. Entries as usual to Jeff at competitions@bristolphoto.org.uk. The judge will be Lyn James LRPS who hales from Cardiff. Any queries, please email Jeff at the same address.

Studio Group
The first Studio Group meeting of 2015 will be on Monday the 26th January with model Kara Wheatley who is a street performer. The session will be suitable for beginners and intermediates. Please book up using this Doodle link, places are limited; anyone who books on and can’t be accommodated on the 26th will go to the top of the list for the next studio event.

Bristol Salon of Photography 2015
This is your last chance to enter the Bristol Salon for nothing! 17 January is the closing date for free entry for BPS members, any entries received after that date will be charged the full fee, there can be no exception to this as it wouldn't be fair on those members who got their entries in on time.
This is your chance to enter one of the leading international exhibitions for FREE, just go to the Salon entry page on the BPS website where you will be able to find the Conditions of Entry and the on-line entry system. If you haven't entered internationals before, this is your chance to dip your toe in the murky waters of the exhibition world, and it won't cost you a penny!
When you get to the page where you enter your own details, make sure that you select YES when asked if you are a BPS member and enter your BPS membership number (see head of this newsletter) where prompted for Membership Reference. This will mean that when you get to the payment page at the end you can just click ALREADY PAID. Ignore any references to fees due in the confirmation email you will receive.

If you have any problems, please feel free to either collar me at any Wednesday meeting or email me at chairman@bristolsalon.co.uk

New Clubrooms - Update
We are now moving a step nearer towards finally moving home! Architect's plans are nearly complete and shortly we should be going out to various contractors for quotations to carry out the works involved and also to apply for Building Regulations approval.

In the meantime, it's your chance to have your say as to what the outside looks like. We are looking for a design for the main fascia panel at the top of the front of the building and thought it would be a good idea if we called on the collective creative juices of the membership. Below is a photograph of the front of the building showing the fascia panel blanked out; it is 3500mm long x 700mm high. We do not want to include the word photographic on the outside of the building as this could act as a temptation to would-be burglars. At present we use the letters BPS in the Albertus Medium font on all stationery and corporate presentations, we also use the Suspension Bridge logo as used on the front of your handbook. It is proposed that the roller shutter framework, housing and the windows and doors beneath the roller shutters are painted "BPS Blue". I know that this doesn't give too much scope for imagination to run riot, but some creative bright spark out there must be able to come up with something. Council will consider all entries and hope make some sort of decision towards the middle of February.

As mentioned above, we are now very close to seeking quotations for the work involved in converting Unit 13 into fantastic new clubrooms. Before we finally put away the drawing board, it would be good to hear from members who may have any suggestions that they think ought to be incorporated. Please send your suggestions to me at the Newsletter within the next few days. I can't promise that everything suggested will be incorporated in the design, but we will look at all suggestions to see if they are feasible or cost effective.

Exhibition to Visit
The British Wildlife Photography Awards 2014 - A Celebration of British Wildlife
Stretching across the British Isles, from towns and cities to woodlands and shorelines, The British Wildlife Photography Awards captures the majestic beauty of our own ‘back garden’; featuring Otters, Puffins, Grey Herons, Starlings, Blue Sharks, Grey Seals, Greylag Geese and the domestic Doormouse. Captured amongst their natural habitat, it also turns the spotlight on Britain’s flora and fauna, including wild woodlands, underwater worlds and urban haunts. The awards showcases over 100 images and videos celebrating the work of amateur and professional photographers as they showcase the beauty and diversity of British wildlife, presenting the familiar in a new and often surprising light. Winning images are chosen from 16 categories including Animal Portraits, Hidden Britain and Wildpix Young People’s Award.

The Exhibition entry system is open until 7th March 2015. There are the same 3 print classes and 4 PDI classes as last year. The exhibition has PAGB Patronage and PAGB Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals plus Selectors Ribbons will be awarded in each class. Full details of the class requirements can be found on the entry system website.
The Exhibition is one the highlights of the WCPF Year, where 100 + of the best print images, and a showing of all other accepted images from WCPF club photographers are on display to the public for two weeks in May. The exhibition is once again returning to Buckfast Abbey where the 2013 and 2014 Exhibitions were so successfully shown and positively commented on by many visitors.
Please support the Federation by entering and helping to ensure the exhibition is a success and that it maintains the high standards seen in previous years.
