Hey Friends!
How are you holding up? Hopefully you're doing more than just holding it? I hope you're owning it!
Wow April has been one huge whirlwind! Of the last 27 days, I've been home all of 7. I'm tired! Between a few family obligations and our house concert tour in Florida, I have to say that 're-entering' life is absolutely exhausting! But that's ok! Sometimes you just gotta move...especially after a year of staying put!
Milestones + Miracles!
With that said, April was an epic month for many other reasons...
1. Bigger Than Your Box turned 3!
I can't even believe how quickly time has flown! This album continues to set the tone for how I think about creating and sharing art and I am ever grateful for the gift of these songs.
2. This month i celebrated 16 years of music-making! 13 of those professionally! Being able to do this gives me so much joy! Thank you for coming along for the ride. 3. And last, but certainly not least...I finished my taxes on time! HAHA! But for real though...that's a huge accomplishment if you know me :) WANT TO HOST A HOUSE CONCERT?
*ahem* BACKYARD CONCERT?
Our April trip to Florida was definitely the year's highlight so far. We were able to do a string of house concerts in the Tampa/St. Petersburg region - my favorite being in the backyard of a fan who's home was along the bay (pictured above). So grateful to the Listening Room Network for bringing us down. The trip was a breath of fresh air! We have another string of midwest house concerts this June through Porchlight Artist Network. Stay tuned for those dates!
Thinking of hosting?
We are most excited about doing house concerts right now! Reconnecting in spaces with people who want good music, good story-telling, and great community! If you're considering hosting something for your community and want to capitalize on the next 6 months of beautiful weather, check out my house concert page for details, answers to FAQ's and more! CULTIVATORS ARTIST GROUP SESSION - This Thursday
Makers! This month's Cultivators session is tomorrow!
As always, group sessions are a monthly opportunity to ask creative branding, booking, and fan-building questions among a group of artists - mostly musicians and singer/songwriters. I started these early last year as a way to help artists think through the bigger picture of making and promoting their work. This is a free monthly video call and is capped at 8ppl. Registration Link is here! 'I can't find the light' Said the prince to the King It's because in your fear you forgot to sing You made the devil the shiniest thing You gave him credit for everything He walked you down right into his home And left you there completely alone The door slammed shut The shine was gone The darkest day you'd ever don The coldest clothing you'd ever put on And deafening silence, for choirs were gone You can't find the light
'Cause you forgot to sing Of my goodness and mercy Of my lovely things You can't find the light 'cause you seek shiny rings But they only refract the actual thing You can't find the light 'cause you love the dark Even as it becomes harder to walk 'I must find the light' Said the prince to the King I am the light. Just follow me. Thanks for the love on "Humans" - the cover song JD Eicher and I released earlier this month. It's now on a handful of Spotify Playlists so we're geeked for the new ears and followers. If you missed it, you can check it out here.
Love to you all! Joy p.s. watch this if you need a good laugh.
It's your reward for making it to the end of this lengthy update :)
