Many if not all of you will be aware that Mike Martin has hosted meetings for this group at our clubrooms, every Monday for the last 18 month’s or so.
This group supports photographers with a variety of physical and other disabilities to continue to enjoy their hobby in the same way as we all do.
Their weekly sessions are a mix of a social gathering, hands on practical sessions and self help, technical talks by Mike and regular portrait shoots.
As a registered Charity, they are required to have a minimum number of officers to fulfil the statutory duties required, namely a Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, along with a few other necessary roles such as managing grant applications, webmaster, programme, liaising with transport provider (responsible for assisting those un-able to get to Unit 13 under their own steam).
Unfortunately all of the present incumbents are stepping down due to health and other issues. This leaves the group in a very precarious position; if they are un-able to fill these posts the group will have to fold.
David Grierson, has volunteered to fill one of the roles, but that still leaves a gap hence this appeal....... IS THERE ANYONE WITHIN THE BPS MEMBERSHIP WILLING TO STEP FORWARD TO JOIN PWD AND TAKE UP ONE OF THE POSITIONS? You do NOT have to have a disability yourself to join up. None of the roles should be particularly onerous given the limited activities undertaken.
Jeff Hargreaves and Steve Field have both stepped in to open up / lock up and to assist the group when Mike has been un-able to attend, and would no doubt vouch for the benefit of getting involved both for the members of PWD and for themselves through their attendance.
As above, sadly, if no one comes forward before the AGM this weekend, it seems probably that the group will be forced to fold/cease.
If you are happy to get involved, or would like some further information about PWD or the roles, please contact David Grierson or Mike Martin....
