Beyond The Wall Group
The Sealed Knot society will be staging a re-enactment at Hartlebury Castle on the weekend of  26/27July https://www.thesealedknot.org.uk/event/hartlebury-castle-2/

This is a large scale (200 people) re-enactment of the English Civil War and promises to be a fabulous chance to capture some great photography. While we have no exclusive access, it is a chance to car share and enjoy a great day out.

If you are interested in being part of a group, probably going on the Sunday, then contact me by email mike.hall95@btinternet.com or by phone 07765 819640.

I am also exploring a visit to the Helicopter Museum at Weston-Super-Mare to do a model shoot using their collection of helicopters from all genres. For further info and to express interest contact me as above.

Distinctions Advisory Group
Monday 21 July - 7.30pm at the Clubrooms.

Andrew Marker, Ralph Snook and Pete McCloskey will be present to offer advice and review possible submissions for RPS and PAGB panels. ALL members who are either already on the path to distinctions or thinking about having a go are welcome, so come along with your images (prints or DPIs) to receive advice.

For the Licentiate the RPS only accept DPI submissions and no longer prints. Our advice was largely based on print submissions, but with the RPS changed rules we will offer advice on DPIs.

Historically LRPS PDI submissions were assessed sequentially but now have to be submitted using a presentation template as outlined on the RPS Website. https://rps.org/qualifications/licentiate/lrps-presentation-layouts/

It is recommended that members read up on Distinctions on the RPS and PAGB websites as they contain much useful information:

PSA End of Year Results
As you know the PSA competition comprises 3 rounds, the aggregate score from these determines the year end ranking for BPS as a club (we did rather well).

In addition, images awarded in those three rounds are then re-judged to allocate the individual awards and medals in the End of Year Competition.

So congratulations all, Paul, Derwood, Barry and Margaret - your certificates are shown below:

Large Colour Prints:
  •  Gold – Paul Moran for Porter!

  •  HC – Derwood Pamphilon for Blue Dress Jete

Creative
  •   Silver – Barry Mead for Negotiation

Small Colour
  •   HM – Margaret Chambers for King of the Penguin Colony

And, if anyone is interested in seeing the images that beat us, they are on the PSA website here - https://www.psa-programs.org/competitions/resultshome.php?cr

When you get to the page you’ll need to select “Interclub” under Division Type.
Division is the competition: those with PID prefix are digital and PPD are the print groups.

For the three PDI categories you need to select the appropriate “Group” to see our immediate competition:  Nature - A; PID Mono – A; PID Colour – C.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Well done to three BPS members who managed to get acceptances in the prestigious Edinburgh International Print Exhibition. This is an exhibition that only accepted 163 prints in total, so to get one accepted is a major success. BPS successes were:

Steve Reynolds:
Accepted + Edinburgh SPF Gold Medal

Accepted - Hot Work Accepted - Imploding Iceberg

Mike Martin:

Accepted - Divine Light            Accepted - Lonely Cloud

Derwood Pamphilon:

Accepted - The Kiss

It was a good week for Steve as he also found that he had gained his MPSA from the Photographic Society of America, which requires the recipient to have had 1500 acceptances in PSA recognised international exhibitions - no mean feat!

It was also a good week for Derwood as he gained his EFIAP/g (gold) distinction, this requires the recipient to have had 500 Acceptances with at least 150 different works in FIAP recognised exhibitions from at least 15 countries - again, no mean feat.

I don't know where these chaps get the money, the entry fees they must have paid could have bought me a small sports car!
Ed

From Sue O'Connell:
Thrilled to have won Gold medal in the PSA Annual Photo Travel Print Exhibition with this mono image, "Basilica Cafe Cartagena", an unusual subject for me!

Salon acceptances: Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Marketplace
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include them in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).

IMPORTANT: Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk.

The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, please remember, if you don't tell us we can't possibly know!
