1. RIP, Bob Barker

Bob Barker, the longtime host of television’s “The Price Is Right,” died on August 26, according to his publicist, Roger Neal. He was 99.

As a lifelong animal rights activist, he ended each episode of the game show with the plea, “Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered.”

He also is remembered for his work in exposing animal cruelty.

Please read more about his life here:

Therapeutic Fur Balls

Cats tend to be fairly in sync with their humans’ emotions. Therefore, cat ownership can also have healthy effects on the body and improve your overall physical and mental health.

Having a cat has been shown to have a positive impact on mental health, depression, and anxiety for many reasons and in many ways, says therapist Cassandra Fallon, regional clinic director at Thriveworks in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Coal kitten

Here's Coal, the newest member of the ProblemCat household.
Black as coal, this kitten has one bit of white on him...a whisker!
While it's not easy to spot in the photo, these "vibrissae" are shed
like other hair on cats, and we hope this one will be replaced by another
white one when the time comes. (It's "too cute!")

He arrived here earlier this month from Dallas, Texas. His days
were numbered at the shelter after 3 failed adoptions. But his
foster mom, Karen, is a friend and we hatched a plan to get
him to North Carolina! He now lives with the remaining rescues
from Nebraska, then Arizona, where I ran rescue shelters. At 8 months
old, with a very healthy appetite, we expect him to grow a lot more.

3. Health and Welfare

Hunger Strike?

There are a number of different conditions that may cause a cat to stop eating. These include infections, kidney failure, pancreatitis, intestinal problems, and cancer, to name a few.

But the reason isn't always serious; something as simple as a toothache can make your kitty stop eating. It's best to consult with your veterinarian to determine how serious things are.
